Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

BOARDSIES DECIDE: Best Song Ever By A Black(Or Partly Black) Music Act!

Welcome to Boardsies decide the best ever song by a black (or partly black!) music act.

Black lives matter-especially in the history of rock 'n' roll; think of all the greats-Chuck Berry, James Brown, Prince, Aretha Franklin, Chef from South Park and last but not least, Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

    RULES:

    1. Michael Jackson counts as black.
    2. Acts that contain only one black member can be submitted e.g. All Saints, Lighthouse Family.
    3. No Ku Klux Klan members.

Submit 10 SONGS by black artists to me, Reberetta, via PM, preferably with a youtube link.

The competition will get underway once I receive around 128 songs and I've finished burning down confederate statues with my fellow black panthers.

    Get on it!

I keep saying I'll never take part in another one of these Boardsies Decides tournaments, because some of the voting decisions that get made along the away make my eyes roll so far back in my head I end up with splitting headaches, but just when I think I'm out, they drag me back in...

I think I just have to accept when I'm nominating that other people are idiots so the overall result don't matter and its just the taking part that's fun... ;)

So many great artist and songs to choose from! I’m gonna go with what comes into my head first (already have 4) and not start second guessing my noms.

I think half the fun of these thread is learning about artists you haven’t heard before
So get searching on Spotify for....MR. TED HAWKINS

I would like to take issue with rule no. 2. Just because there's a black member of the group doesn't mean that any songs by the Lighthouse Family are acceptable! Other than that I'm looking forward to being disappointed when some hip-hop sh*te wins the competition. :D

Turn that frown upside down, purple

When you're close to tears remember
Some day it'll all be over
One day 'we're gonna get so high
And though it's darker than December
What's ahead is a different colour
One day 'we're gonna get so high

Some Latinos would describe themselves as black. I'll let the people decide who is black enough or not!*

While I have on occasions, not in this case. I really thought the guy who sang the piano man and uptown girl was black.

I'd vote for him. I love Billy Joel. He's an amazing artist.

    Just not black.

In fairness to Kolido (though I'm still laughing hours later), he does look a *bit* black, and in the the River of Dreams video a little *bit more* black than even normal.

But in the true spirit of the long and distinguished history of Irish people acting the maggot when it comes to internet voting, we'd then be obliged to make sure Billy Joel won the whole thing.

Kind of like Father Ted winning Best TV Show?

It goes all the way back to Ronnie O'Brien leading the Time Magazine Person of the Century vote in 1999, until the powers that be decided that he was a "frivolous candidate" and removed him. The online forums associated with that poll were my first experience of discussion sites, and probably to this day still the most entertaining.

For those who've never heard of Ronnie O'Brien, he was a young guy from Bray who somehow ended up signing for Juventus, although he never actually played for them. Went on to have a decent career playing in the States.

    ok, songs send.

I was seriously tempted to submit 10 Prince songs, but I decided it was an overkill and I settled for 2.

But I couldn't resist the temptation of a joke entry :P:D:pac:

No one has selected anything from Will Smith's back catalogue of classics. You people are a continual disappointment to me.

I did seriously consider Will 2K, Wild Wild West, and Summertime... and if I had had more of 10 nominations, one of them would've most likely made the cut.

If you wanna just throw those three in to the mix anyway, I wouldn't object... ;)

I might throw in a few preliminary rounds for the final four places in the draw, featuring classic songs that weren't nominated. The Fresh Prince will be in the mix one way or another.

In the meantime, keep the submissions coming folks.

I actually initially had a song by him in my list of ten before I submitted it, but then I remembered another song I wanted in the list more!

My selection is just pure class and there is something wrong with the voters if they are not voted for. :D

When will the nominations close and the voting start?

Depending on when it is, I may have to sit it out and just hope that people give my class songs a listen and realize their true worth...and obviously vote for them!

When will you be unavailable? I can run it when it suits you, I don't mind.

    Around 115 songs nominated now.
