Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Recommended a helmet

    Hi my name is D3V!L and you may remember me from such threads of "I have an old helmet and refuse to dump it " :D

    I've conceded and decided to get a new helmet. I'm looking for a recommendation for a carbon fibre flip face. Any suggestions ?

    I would have thought carbon fibre and flip face is an oxymoron. That would be fierce unstrong.

    Are they even made ?

    I like AGV, if you've got a big Irish mallet head like me they fit well. They do a carbon modular.

    Well, fair dues for making an informed decision on it anyway.

    The UK's Sharp test is a good go-to to give you an idea of how many times a flip-up opened during their simulated crash tests. Weirdly, some helmets with 4 and 5 stars have a relatively high "open" rate - the chin bar didn't stay fully closed during the testing. Personally I'd want mine to stay closed :) .

    You probably already know flip-ups can be heavy due to the mechanisms involved, they also typically come with nice extras like sunvisor and the associated bits and bobs add weight. Carbon fibre is strong and light so will help bring that weight down but I'd encourage you to keep an open mind on other materials as well.

    Polycarbonate, despite not being terribly fashionable, is still an excellent material for strength and impact dissipation, albeit it's not as light as carbon fibre.     Was doing the same search myself recently. Went for the Shoei Neotec 2 in the end. It's great - very quiet & comfortable.

    Also looked at the Schuberth C3pro /C4 pro and the AGV Sportsmodular. They seem like the top ones to look at.

    I just sent back an AGV Sportmodular and have had a few C3's in the past. The AGV is an odd shape and pushed on my chin when I went up to motorway speeds.

    The Shoei keeps popping up in my lists, I'll take a look, thanks :)

    I wear the Carberg Duke 2, I've found it really comfortable although as a poster above pointed out flip helmets can be a little heavier than normal of course it doesn't help that I size large. It's also well rated in the SHARP test.

    Thanks for all the recommendations lads. I went for the Shoei Neotec 2 in the end in Garda white :D.

    Got it in Megabikes for a great deal. Took it out this evening and it's such a vast improvement over my old lid. Delighted with it.
