Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Are there any ancient ancestry tracing companies that don't sell your DNA results?

What do you mean by "ancient ancestry"?

Any smaller firm is not going to have a comparison database of any size and would hence be useless.

Ancient ancestry as opposed to just tracing a parent

Do you mean ethnicity? If so, it's not reliable for anything serious yet. We've a few other threads on this.

DNA tests are only helpful in tracing ancestors if you match with a living descendant of the same ancestor. That's why you need to go with a company which has millions of DNA samples as there's a better chance of finding someone who matches.

That's only the beginning of the search. I have 100s of DNA matches on Ancestry but no way of finding out who the common ancestor is, because the other match hasn't put up a family tree or doesn't have any information beyond their parents.

It's worth doing the work on constructing a family tree before doing a DNA test. The more information you have, the easier it will be to work out where the common ancestors are.
