Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You really have to hand it to Aldi with their naming of copycat brands.

They should have gone the whole hog and called it '26 Miles'.

Their chocolate isn't actually the worst. Their 'Titan' (fake Mars) is as good as the real thing nowadays.

Will they be also reverting to the old ingredients - the bar that didn’t include palm oil, soya flour, cocoa mass and other gross shït used to bulk up the product?

    Modern chocolate is an abomination

If you're willing to pay €2+ a bar for it.

The price point is whats causing them to for cheap filler; people will stop buying bars over a certain price on impulse. Its about €1.30 here. So they get worse and get smaller to keep under that price.

I want to see proper Yorkie bars brought back. The current ones are just normal bars of chocolate. The selling point used to be that they were gigantic. They need to have proper ads too.

A good rich and thick milk chocolate brick

And I don’t have to watch that add- it’s been Yorkie from day 1

    Bring back opal fruits!

Or Vauxhall Fruits as they were called in the UK.

Are you sure you weren't just smaller? :)

While we're on the subject, bring back Texan bars.

This was back in the day when there was no way you could simply "snap off" a segment of a real Yorkie as shown in the ad. Especially not with your teeth like this truker does (you'd leave teeth marks and possibly even your own teeth enbedded in the bar).

No....to remove a real Yorkie segment you'd need to whack it off the side of a table a few times, and once the table was tenderized enough that segment might pry out with enough strength and swearing.

    ....god I miss that bar.....

... and just when I was getting used to calling them "snickers"...

I think my Dad still calls them "Marathon", so I guess he'll be ok:D

The golly bar was the king of ice creams. Simple yet filling.
    Gone but not forgotten

Golly bar? Wasn't that just plain vanilla ice cream on a stick?

Well, it’s better than hearing that every product will become a generic brand name.

But when will they actually start making decent chocolate again? Over the past decade, most chocolate has gone to hell. :( Smaller sizes, inferior ingredients, etc.

I never ever got used to Jif being rebranded “Cif.” Never. No siree...

I want “Starburst” to revert to its proper name - Opal Fruits. And I want the original flavours back - Lemon (my favourite), Lime, Strawberry and Orange. None of this “sours” BS...

This is going to make lecturing the kids on "back in my day" 20 years down the line really fecking awkward, when I'd have the auld lad telling me "no no no, in MY day it was Marathon so y'ere fecking wrong!".

I think I remember them pretending that the name change was due to "Jif" being too difficult for non-English speakers to say (and this having nothing to do with them sharing the name with a certain brand of lemon juice).

I then later in life I emigrate to Scandinavia, and loe and behold...."Jif" branded cleaning stuff in every shop....and not an "easier to pronounce" Cif to be seen anywhere. The Cheeky liars!

I moved of of home during the transition so I think I actually only had one bottle of Jif but its a better name

Should have renamed it to Gif, make it much less confusing to pronounce.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭jiltloop

They've left it too late I think, might as well just leave it now since the old name is a generation ago more or less.

Starbursts though should definitely change back to Opal Fruits.
