Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Turning it on/off didnt make any difference. Im beginning to think their is a limit to the amount of transponders it allows to display channel info for.

Like in my first pic, I had no EPG for Al Jazeera. No matter how long I wait, EPG just wont appear. I rebooted box and it appeared but I lost it for movies4men, +1, talking pictures etc

Hi, sorry to hijack thread but does anyone know if you can buy power supply board for Ariva 250 combo only one of mine just went pop. I'd say the fuse on board has blown but no real point replacing it if other components have or will shortly fail. I can see there is some discolouration around a couple of the resistors on the front of the board. Thanks

I don't know if it's possible to get boards separately. I looked for one a while ago and couldn't get it.

In any case, I'd say you'd be as well just replacing the receiver with a 153 or 253.

It is possible but we've found that the cost gets close to the price of a new box as my fellow poster has suggested.

HI All, Really loving the ariva 153... is there any way to take the recordings on the external drive i have connected and put them on a USB to play them on my PC??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,422 ✭✭✭Avns1s

You can just disconnect the external drive from your 153, connect to your laptop and play away. You can also drag the files to a USB key when your external drive is connected to your laptop.

When you say its not working for you how do you mean?

The Ariva should create a folder structure on your hard drive which you should be able to browse when you connect it to your Mac (with things like the channel and time of recording info in the folder name). On mine it creates .TS files (transport stream i'm guessing). Simply open those with your media player. Mine plays with the VLC media player (works with Mac OS X too). I've had it working on PC/Windows, Linux, and Android Tablet & TV box.

    Hi All

I see people mention downloading and installing patched softwre/firmware for this box.
I alos see that providing such here is a big no no.

So I'm wondering what is patched firmware and what extra does it give for this box?

PM me if even answering the question is deemed inappropriate.

    Thanks

    Hi
Have the 153 with firmware v1.27B9 ans did a backup dump to USB.
I downloaded v1.30B9 and 1.31B9 form the ferguson website but when I try to update with USB it says the BIN don't match so i did not continue.
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong please?
    Thanks

Unless you have a particular issue I would not bother updating from 1.27

Only reason I tried this was because the web services like YouTube etc returns "No Data"
Google maps and weather forecasts are OK so Internet works

So why would I get bin mis-match?

Unfortunately ferguson are at fault for these error messages . You can take a chance but there is a possibility that the box will crash and you would then need to re program via null modem cable.

I seem to have lost all my Irish Channels .... did an autoscan ... found 9 items from 546.00 to 778.00 ... and all failed ... showing no channels .... worked yesterday ... any ideas .... thanks.
p.s. the satellite channels work fine ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,336 ✭✭✭✭Tony

Try the coverage checker first of all to find out what the specific frequencies are for your area , then if you look at manual scan it should give you signal and quality readings, its most likely an aerial or connection issue . https://www.saorview.ie/en/get/coverage

I got an 153 installed yesterday. The EPG is working fine for the Irish channels but there is nothing for the 'satellite' channels..BBCs etc.

    Any ideas

Once you select a channel you should see now and next program information.

For the reason that Tony mentions above, the TV guide of the Ariva will only show listings for Saorview supplied programming, as I understand it is transmitted with the saorview signal transmissions, whereas a 'feature' of satellite is now/next EPG info only.

The above means that when you are in your Ariva's TV 'guide' you will see a fully populated TV guide on Saorview, but only the now/next info on satellite and only for the channels that you are currently accessing (ie. not for all satellite channels) so 95%+ it will be blank anyway (until as Tony says, you select the actual channel).

The http://www.radiotimes.com/tv/tv-listings may become your friend for what you are looking for (but obviously that's via web browser) as i don't think there is any way for all programming info to be populated into the Ariva's EPG.

A bit of a pain if you were expecting that it would be there. Not the end of the world either.

    I cannot rename favorites.

    Hi,

Just purchased a new aviva 153 combo. Tuned up.my channels. Now I want to create favorites but I have found that I cannot rename any of the 32 favorites groups provided. When I go to menu, channel list, favorite, rename I can type in a new name but when I press ok it just returns back to the old default name. Has anyone seen issues like this before? Any work around?

    Cheers

From memory, I think when you have the "keypad" on the screen, and you have your favourites list renamed, you need to press the BLUE button rather than the OK button for it to be stored.

Got an Ariva 153 just recently ... and for the past month the RTE Channels have been breaking up .... switched the Antenna directly to the TV and they are fine .... can I fix this ... or do I need to have the box replaced ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,336 ✭✭✭✭Tony

Try the terrestrial manual scan and see what quality and signal readings you are getting . The Tv's tuner may be slightly more sensitive than the Ariva so it may not necessarily mean that the box is faulty, could still be borderline reception on the aerial feed .

  • Registered Users Posts: 126 ✭✭Claggan

Thank you for the reply .... but we have no trouble scanning the channels manually on the Ariva (signal 70/90) ... it is when viewing the RTE Channels .... a lot of breakup .... which can be duplicated by wiggling the Antenna on the back of the Ariva box. However, when we switched the antenna feed to play directly through the TV ... all signals are perfect .... no breakup. The installer felt there was something loose in the Ariva Box.

Sounds like it could possibly be a dry joint on the terrestrial tuner board or socket . Not really sure why the installer thinks something is "loose" in the box though unless hes referring to the tuner insert socket into the main board.

    Hi All

Our old TV that the Ariva was connected to died and so our new Smart TV has Saorview and Freesat.
So I dont need the Ariva box anymore.
How much should I sell it for on Donedeal or Adverts?

It might be worth keeping as a recorder, ie watch on tv record on ariva. Saorview can be looped through ariva, sat would need a second feed.

    Hi there,

Can I remove the "youporn" entry from the menu or just lock down the menu somehow so it is never visible without a parental control PIN?

Bought this for a kids room and reckon its absolutely ridiculous if they hadn't allowed a stock way of hiding this option :(

PS I know they can't access it without a PIN but I need it gone outright or else box is being returned..... Don't need that hassle either.....

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,393 ✭✭✭AnCatDubh

Not certain but I remember this being asked before and unfortunately I don't think that you can remove it. It is default AFAIK.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,336 ✭✭✭✭Tony

There is now way of removing this unfortunately. We asked ferguson about this many years ago and their answer was that they had not received many requests for this from other users in Europe.

Thanks folks - Seemingly you can via editing the firmware (found a post on here last night, can't seem to see it now?) but I'd be a bit worried about bricking the box (?)

    - Just to be sure (sorry now if this seems obtuse) you can't just restrict menu access altogether either somehow and solve issue that way?

Failing that could someone please advise on the next best replacement combo box for the 153 that isn't aimed at family viewing and the adult market without any common sense distinction. (FFS).

PS - If someone on here might be interested in a straight swap for my 153 I'll entertain it more than likely. Brand new box used for about 60 mins so far...... What your offering would have to be solid, reasonably new, not dated and worth considering please!

The Youp*rn thing is a bit of a pain but is also not as big a deal as it might appear. It's on a menu that you wouldn't really go into in normal use. I wouldn't let it put you off an otherwise good box.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,336 ✭✭✭✭Tony

Ok if you bought it online then you are entitled to send it back in as new condition if you notify the retailer within 14 days of purchase, maybe the retailer would be happy to give you a replacement rather than lose the sale entirely.

Edit: Assuming its a trader, don't think this applies to private sales

Ah it wouldn't bother me personally and if the situation was different it would be a non-issue - but this was bought specifically for a child's room and I'm uncomfortable with it in this particular scenario.

    - If anyone fancies an upgrade let me know what you have to swap ;)

    Thanks for the replies all.

    @ Mango Joe.

Simplest fix is to buy a cheap programmable remote control that has limited buttons. IE + and - buttons for both volume and channel change and remove the other one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,178 ✭✭✭Mango Joe

    Now yer talking ;)

    - Thanks a million, I kept having thoughts of opening up the remote and surgically removing the "menu" button alright....

I'll go looking now, would just be worried about ordering the wrong product, if someone would be so kind as to link me to one that will def work with the 153 I'd be v grateful.

    * Edit - Ah crap theres a menu button on the front panel of unit itself, must see if it can be disabled via a menu or perhaps theres a ribbon cable in there that could be temp removed!!!
