Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Do these cameras use any kind of generic protocols to allow 3rd Party Software to be used with them??

See posts above about RTSP access, problem is that it's password protected in the latest firmware & nobody seems to know the username/password!

Video sample of the Ant recording during the day.
    (Found on some Czech forum)

I'm hoping to get mine in the post tomorrow. Sounds like we'll need Xiaomi to give us the default login/password when they return from New Year's celebrations. I want to use the usual IP cam apps on phone and tablets for which I believe I'll need the login credentials.

I got one of these, but it doesn't appear to have night vision capability. Do you think it would work with infrared LEDs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,611 ✭✭✭crasy dash

Just wondering what's the quality like during the day?

For the money im tempted to order one anyway.

Got one of these today, but can't get it to work properly on the phone, goes through the set up routine, shows the wifi but after I enter the wifi password it just sticks on 'connecting to camera' and then eventually fails and gives me the option to reconfigure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,574 ✭✭✭savemejebus

Try sticking a paperclip in the reset hole in the back of it for a few seconds to do a factory reset. Once this is done it should connect ok. It will spout a bit of chinese at you during the process though :)

Yep, tried that just after I posted and it appears to do the trick. Very handy little unit.

Got mine just there. Tidy little unit; but thanks to Customs almost 14 euro dearer .

Looking at the blue light flashing here. I presume that this eventually changes to orange?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,012 ✭✭✭eamonnq

Orange first then flashing blue. Just try the setup routine, should be fine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,053 ✭✭✭wait4me

Thanks plugged it out and in again; and orange for a few mins and flashing blue again. I'll fool it somehow! thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,012 ✭✭✭eamonnq

Set up routine works fine on flashing blue.

Ordered the 1080p version from aliexpress about 10 days ago, currently in transit. How long did it take you for full delivery?

I ordered Feb 4 and it was in Customs last Friday. So about a month, give or take.

Has anyone got this working with iOS ?

Who did you order from that you got stung with customs?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,330 ✭✭✭Gran Hermano

Powered this for 24 hours using a xiaomi 10400 battery power pack.

Are most people just using the standard xiaomi apps to view or are you using other IP/rtsp viewer apps?

The login details for the RTSP are unknown (if you have the latest firmware), so I'm using the modded english version of the app.

How do you find the IP address of the camera, once you have it up and running ?

    D'oh, found it!!

I'm kind of stuck on the fence about buying one of these....don't suppose anyone can upload some footage from the camera to help me decide please? Keep it clean! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,012 ✭✭✭eamonnq

Have this up and running now using Ispy so it allows you to set up motion detection, zones, alerts etc. and it works very well, only problem is I cannot figure out how to set the IP to a static address, so I have to keep checking it and updating it manually in Ispy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,027 ✭✭✭opus

Anyone have any luck getting it to work with the Smarthome app to do the motion detection?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,512 ✭✭✭stevire

Arrived yesterday, have it setup on Smart Home and Ants Camera apps. I can access them remotely through my phone no problem too.

Is there a way to view the feed in a browser? Or do I need to go third party via RTSP?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,012 ✭✭✭eamonnq

If you can get the IP address of the camera and open it in a browser it will let you browse the contents of the micro sd card ( the recordings), have not found a way to set the IP address though as it keeps changing, so accessing it from outside your home network is a struggle.

You can view the recordings through the phone app, ( the orange bits along the timeline indicate motion detected ).

I can view Realtime through the apps, I don't have recording setup. Was hoping Xiaomi had a webpage equivalent for viewing the stream. If not, I'll use port forwarding on 554 and use the following links to stream in a browser (using WAN):

    Main stream:rtsp://<wan_ip>:554/ch0_0.h264
    Minor stream:rtsp://<wan_ip>:554/ch0_1.h264
    Audio stream:rtsp://<wan_ip>:554/ch0_3.h264

You could turn off DHCP on your router after the device has been assigned an IP?

The recording is done automatically to the SD card AFAIK, as I did no setting up for recording either, the recording are just there on the card.

Not sure if turning off DHCP on the router might cause problems for other devices on my network.

Is there some magic to getting the Smart Home app to work as I've only ever got the Camera one going

Watch out for a firmware upgrade for the camera as it puts a password on the RTSP stream that nobody knew last time I looked.

Are you logging in via MI account on Smart Home app? I set one up on the web, then added the camera through the camera app, then logged into the Smart Home app with MI account and it was there.

I'm using the translated apps found here:

Cheers, yes I'm logging in on the Smart Home thing with a MI account but it doesn't have the camera in there. If I try to add it manually, it seems to find it, then asks for the wifi password, tries to do something (progress wheel goes upto 100%) and then says it fails.

Spotted on the thread on the miui forum that somebody is planning a fully translated version of the latest version of the app so maybe that will help.

I tried it last night, and when I try to add the camera and get to selecting the wifi, it tells me that I cannot select my wifi as it has to connect to a router ?

The camera is already connected to my wifi anyway, so not sure what the problem is.

Would this work as a baby monitor? Just exploring some alternative options...

Yes once it's bright, some baby monitors have infra red and temperature readouts.

I bought one last week with that in mind. I'll have to test it out with low light to see if it's usable.

I got 3 of them delivered.Unfortunately with all 3 connected at the same time they seem to be conflicting with one another. They work fine individually, however.

stick a paperclip in the reset hole at the back to reset it completely and try then

Mine arrived last Thursday but I didn't get my hands on it until today. Why? Fecking customs nabbed it even though it was routed through Sweden. Cost me an extra €15....

    Having the same problem.

I had to remove it from the camera app then add it to the smart home app and then re-add it to the camera app, and even at that I can only use the smart home settings, the app crashes when viewing video.

New firmware for the camera available to download. No idea what changes it gives and still don't have any working RTSP credentials.

I ordered one the day after Paddy's day and it arrived last Friday. The customs declaration valued it at $15 so no duty due.

Setup was simple enough but I reckon that without all the advice on here I'd have been lost. Thanks to all who took the time to post that advice.

Software for it is a bit rubbish in my opinion. I got the small ants app working with it but not the smart home one (which I'm guessing has the better features such as record on detecting motion etc). I removed the camera from the small ants app and then tried the smart home one to no avail....I wonder could someone post a link to the Smart Home app that is working for them please?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭McG

was able to update to latest software using the link from here: http://en.miui.com/thread-99096-1-1.html

I needed to uninstall the English translation first but the new app still has English. Haven't had a chance to test with camera (it's at home and turned off at the moment)

What is happening when you launch the smarthome app? Have you been able to add the camera to it. I had to
    1) remove the camera from the camera app
    2) use a paperclip to reset the camera
    3) immediately launch the smarthome app and get it searching for the camera on my network (i had copied my wifi access key so i could just paste it in to do it all as quicky as possible)

It took a few goes but the camera was detected. I then readded it to the camera app. However, once i launch the smarthome app it launches to the device screen (listing xiaomi devices in range) and then if i choose the camera it tries to load the feed and then crashes back to the device screen.

So, I have to immediately hit the three dots in the right hand corner of the screen before the camera loads to get into the settings. It doesn't crash then and I can set the alert (call the police) option and the times for it etc. then apply. When the alerts come in then, i just dismiss the smart home notification and check the camera app.

Bloody hell!! I think that situation was what the adjective "onerous" was created for. Will give it a try once I find the time and willpower.
