Won't it happen here eventually?.that or something like it.i think it will and we won't have a hope in the world.may not be in our life time but it will happen I reckon.

Earthquake strikes off coast of Japan
A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 earthquake hit off the shores of Japan's southern Pacific island.The Meteorological Agency says the offshore quake Sunday struck about 370 kilometres (230 miles) below the sea surface. The agency said there was no danger of a tsunami. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Em, no. Earthquakes in Japan occur on a very frequent basis - always have, always will. Since the March 2011 earthquake there have been many aftershocks which is normal after a powerful earthquake. Because of the devastation of that earthquake, we now see a lot more media coverage reagrding quakes in Japan.

OP, other places to post it could be the lovely Japan forum (there's a link under my post and under my avatar there) or else After Hours I guess.

Most likely not - or at least not for a very, very long time. We're nowhere near the meeting of any of the earth's plates so Ireland would need to drift quite a long distance for us to be in the path of one :P

Unless there's severe casualties or damage, Japanese people won't pass much heed of an earthquake - they occur far too often for them to want to.

The weather forum has often hosted threads on earthquakes, volcanoes etc... there is some boards.ies here with an interest in all of that too.

There is a frequent poster on here, upforanything that usually tracks these things, and I think that you just beat her to the post

I've taken the holiday season off... I'm all quaked out and my hair is matted with cooled lava and my computer monkey is getting past it and not peddling as fast these days so my PC is not as good as keeping up with the news as before.

As Eskimo says the weather forum puts up with our earthquake and volcano threads because a lot of the weather buffs here like extreme nature.

Maybe I will start lobbying for a Disaster forum but that seems a bit macabre and schadenfreudie which we are not. :P

Think of the forum not so much as "weather", but "not-entirely-predictable natural phenomena, of which weather happens to be the most frequent". Hence, we deal with weather, earthquakes, sunspots, volcanoes, and so on.

That was an amazing video, Jake. Spectacular. I couldn't get that cam link to work for me though. I think my PC is dying. The screen keeps flickering up and down really fast and I can't always click fast enough before it's gone.

New Zealand are warning bigger quake could be on the way. They are very worried. The mayor of Christchurch has called for a briefing from seismologists.
