Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Khabib will rinse the UFC if the fight is to happen. Rogan said on his latest podcast that he's refused the fight. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone is in disagreement that it's easily the biggest PPV on their hands.

New footage of Mcgregor allegedly stamping on a fans phone today. Completely Mcgregor's fault. Fan did nothing out of ordinary

the one in Florida from a few weeks ago - not a new one. just very clear footage now released.

the guy never went near mcgregor - watch it yourself. a number of people taking some pics and he just picked this guy out.

Jesus the CSAC & Glory really ****ed up here letting a HIV positive fighter compete.

If he's on proper medication is it really that big of an issue?
There didn't seem to be any mention of that.

Does the medication surpres it enough that there couldn't be any transmission? I haven't a clue how the medication works so it might not be any issue. I personally wouldn't want to fight/ref someone who's HIV positive at the very least I'd like to be told also. That seems to be the bigger issue, he wasn't told until after the fight.

If the fighter knew and still went in then he needs to be held accountable too.

Yeah, the new drugs reduce it so much that it's undetectable and it can't be transmitted either.

He wasnt told until after the event according to the article.

There's no audio, so hard to know the fan did nothing out of the ordinary.
There must be some reason he got singled out for the phone stomping treatment.

Proper medication would mean the risk is essential zero. But HIV positive athletes are banned from competing regardless.
If this guy slipped passed, it's possible that he wasn't aware he was infected and only found out when the blood tests came back. Which means no medication and a live virus.

There's possibly a case for more stringent testing. Don't think it'll matter if that testing doesn't exist, just need a good enough lawyer.

Stringent test currently exist. Pro fighters have to get tested for HIV and Hepatitis before being licensed.

As above, pre-fight tests should have picked it up. If CSAC licensed him without bloodwork results, then they are liable imo. Even if the risk was very low, he still had the emotional stress of noting knowing for sure for 6 months.

Amateur fighters too, in Ireland anyway.

Yup. Amateur must places. Here it's only once per year, where Pro is everyfight I believe.
Is ammy in Ireland every fight?

Sorry, misread that. Just the once per year for Ammy.

Bloods and general medical once per year. MRI is a once off unless it shows any abnormalities, this could lead to an MRI annually or med fail.

So he sparred one of his gob****e friends and still looked like he's never been in a competitive boxing match in his life.

I hope for his sake that wasn't actually him.

Ah Jaysus, there's been plenty of stuff to criticise McGregor for over the last few years, but you're really reaching if you are having a go at him for taking part in a charity event for Crumlin Boxing Club.

Saw a longer video of that match. Its amazing that Conor would put himself in that kind of position...loads of people recording and the guy clearly wanted nothing more than to knock him out and make the newspapers lol. Conors defense looked good but not much offense, was kind of like a matador vs a bull.

It was a 4 round bout to raise money for charity. People are actually having a go at him for raising money for charity lmfao. Sad individuals. Not referring to you with that btw but the others in the thread.

Ah, it was fairly sloppy alright. Although there did seem to be a bit of decent movement in him (apart from the few lunges forward and falling in a bit). But his throwing was messy as fu*k.

He should be fit though. If they had a few months with him to train him intensively, he might win a fight or two in the Leinster Intermediates. If he got a decent draw.

MMA fighter in charity boxing match looks sloppy, shocker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,210 ✭✭✭✭Donald Trump

It's not a charity boxing match. It's an annual show that they run every year.
He got in for a few rounds with his Yank padded headguard. I didn't think they were allowed here for competition. Maybe because they put it down as an exhibition. Probably officially a spar.

That said, if it was senior level, would have expected headgear anyway!

    .

What were you expecting, his last boxing bout was against Mayweather, he's a 2 weight UFC champ with one of the best striking in the business, did you really think he'd go in against an amateur boxer and take his head off?? :pac::pac:

It's a fundraiser for the boxing club.
Certainly just an exhibition bout, not an official amateur boxing event. The reason for that kind of headgear is better protection against cuts. which should be a bigger concern for a pro fighter imo.

Best "striking" maybe in the sense of going on strike and not defending the belts. :pac:

He was supposed to have boxed a bit when he was younger. One might have expected him to be a bit more composed. That's all.

I didn't bother watching the footage but I can only assume (perhaps incorrectly, who knows) that McGregor was hardly out to knock his opponents block off given the specific circumstances? Seems like a real non-issue for discussion. It was just a bit of light hearted craic a million miles away from serious competitiveness.
