07-07-2009 8:33pmWelcome to Expand Your Horizons!
- First, the Golden Rule of Boards.ie:
You have the right to object to the moderator's decision, of course. You make your case for this objection via PM first with the moderator(s) in question. If that fails, you can then use the Dispute Resolution Forum.- What is this forum for/about?
Essentially, Expand Your Horizons is a forum for the sharing of articles, videos, websites, etc., that examine aspects of anything that you find interesting. It strives to expand your mind by allowing access to the very best articles on the internet, without having to filter through all of the useless rubbish that typically prevails on the web.
This forum welcomes articles containing ideas and concepts that may not be accepted, fit anywhere else or are not often shared. Anything worth reading, regardless of how complex or simple, is welcome on this forum (within reason). There are a few exceptions to this, of course: the article must, in some way, be capable of expanding your mind; it must be capable of improving your general knowledge, or knowledge in a particular area.
There are two sides to the forum. The first, as detailed above, is for the sharing of information that is capable of Expanding Your Horizons. The second is for the discussion of these articles, and the topics they deal with, in an intelligent and reasoned way.
If this forum achieves what it was set out to, you will find it to be one of the most interesting forums on Boards.- The Universal Rules of Boards.ie:
II. Flaming and Trolling are forbidden.
III. Personal abuse is forbidden; attack the post, not the poster.
IV. Spamming is forbidden.
V. Porn is forbidden. Any links to sites which contain some (very) minimal nudity, clearly mark as NSFW (not suitable for work).
VI. Posting of phone numbers and email addresses is forbidden.
*VII. Illegal activities can be discussed, but giving advice on how to carry out illegal activities will lead to a permanent ban.
*VIII. Racism is not allowed.
IX. Do not argue with a moderator on thread. If you have an issue, PM the moderator in question first. If that fails, take it to the Dispute Resolution Forum.
X. Text speak is not allowed. Anyone who posts in text speak will be warned.- Rules specific to this forum:
VII. Advocating illegal activities can take place in the context of decriminalisation. It is perfectly acceptable to post articles evaluating the economic value of prostitution, and calling for its legalisation. It's not O.K., on the other hand, to tell someone where to find a prostitute. Threads regarding illegal activities will be monitored closely to ensure that no "practical" advice is given out for the commission of illegal activities.
VIII. Racism can be discussed in articles and threads about articles, and comments which draw general conclusions about groups of people are allowed, as long as they are based on something solid, and have a caveat that they talk about these groups in general, and do not include all individuals of that group (this is a good example of what might be construed as racism in another forum). Similarly, an article that might be said to be racist, such as this, may be acceptable if is factually correct, intelligently argued, and fair.
If you're adding an extract of a scientific paper from a journal, please use appropriate citations.
Violation of any of the above rules will lead to a warning, an infraction or a ban.
Thank you for your co-operation.9
