Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi I'm looking for advice and recommendations.

I have 15 week old female springer spaniel. She will be a family pet not a working gundog. First time owning a dog.

I had originally planned to use the services of a professional dog trainer for help with basic training but that is difficult in the current conditions.
I just want to get her good basic training in things such as sit/stay, good lead training and good recall.

Making some progress at home, some days better than others.

I am using youtube videos for guidance, (Zac George and a channel called McCann dogs) however I have no idea If they're any good. Do people here rate these channels or are there more effective trainers online. (Or in print)

Thanks, any advice would be welcome.

That's great, good vote of confidence in the breed. So far all is going well I'm just anxious not to miss training milestones. Like kids I'm sure once you pass a certain stage training is harder.

All the advice is to have plenty of socialisation with other dogs and people, as a pup, but sure that is impossible now.

We watched tonnes of Zak George videos in the beginning. His advice seems pretty reasonable, easy to follow and most importantly it seems to work! :D

    Look up Victoria Stillwell
    Easier than Cesar Milan methods

Honestly she’s still so young you’ve tons of time!

We adopted our springer he was 18months at the time and still super trainable .. he’s ex gun .. so excellent recall (which is amazing) ball trained but had never walked on a lead or had a collar .. or socialised properly- he was terrified of everything cars, people, loud noises, the fire, etc you get the picture .. we worked to desensitise over a period of a few months and now he’s pretty much .. perfect! Still wary of strangers but that’s not necessarily a bad thing .. my point is the are super clever, busy, bouncy dogs and will adapt.

Definitely on the socialisation yes try and bring her out with u as much as u can .. for walks, in the car, if ur getting a coffee where u live .. walk her bring her with you .. we bring our guy everywhere with us .. walks, beer garden (when they were open) etc..

Any photos? What colour is she?

My guy is liver and white technically.. but he’s actually around 75% a dark brown colour and the rest white x

    Any photos?

Thanks for all that good to know. Our girl is a black and white springer, she's gorgeous but I might be biased.

Funny I never considered myself a dog person but you do get attached.

I'll post a photo but must I work out how first to do that on boards.

We have a malamute, she's watched hundreds of online training videos but none of them seemed to help much unfortunately.
