Bubbling sound from heating.

We had a new heating system fitted earlier in the year including upgrading the pump system from the back boiler of the stove and the fitting of a new cylinder.

Now every time we light the stove there is a what sounds like a bubbling or sucking noise every 40 odd seconds unless we have the thermostat set between 80 and 90 which obviously makes the taps unusable.

It's a two story house and the back boiler only fills the immersion and not radiators.

Is there something specific that may cause this or could it just be a noisy pump?

if its the stat that brings on the pump its set way too high turn down to around 45/50

how near to the stove is the stat situated

It's when the stat is low that the noise starts or becomes more regular. The stat is on the wall next to the stove.

The stat connected to the stove is on a pipe connected to the stove. It may be in the next room or the room above, follow the pipes leaving the stove and the stat should be on one of those pipes. That stat should be set to 40/50.
I am unsure about the stat on the wall that you mentioned.Post a pic of it.

I'm wondering why there is a pump if the stove only heats hot water, surely there is a gravity circuit.

yes.there is something odd about it.

Sorry the stat is on the pipe going up the chimney breast

    Think more info is needed.
Could you take a few photos of the setup?

This is the stat and what I assumed was the pump.

It should circulate by gravity even with/if the pump in the circuit......can you take a pic of the pump "running" and we can see the mode/setting by the LEDs.

Yeah I'll throw one up later when the fire is lit.

Thats with the pump on and it's definitely the source of the noise as I discovered when taking the photo. Is it an issue with the settings on it would you think?

Yes, that setting is by far too high its set to constant pressure 3 which is 4.8M, change the setting to display just one bar with the same centre symbol displayed, it will then run on constant pressure 1 which is 2.2M and should stop that noise and also allow you to reduce your stat setting again, let us know how you get on.

Go to page19 to see settings.

No luck with that, would the issue be that it needs to be bled by any chance?

Its easy to vent those pumps with the screw in the middle, just wondering if the system has a lot of air in it from running at 90C. You might also check if both pump isolating valves are fully open and if the pump is pumping the correct way, ie if installed in the outlet (Flow) from the stove then pumping away from the stove, if on the inlet (return) then pumping into the stove.
Also hold a plastic "glass" full of water under the vent in the attic with its end immersed in the water and see if it's pulling any water in, you might have a partial blockage in the cold feed makeup causing air to be drawn in through the vent.
The pump could be faulty but unlikely if fairly new.

You could finally try the pump on its lowest head which is PP1, one bar and the bottom mode symbol illuminated. Can't think of anything else just now.

Cheers for the help, I'll try the above and get back to you.

What do you mean by unusable?

As in the water temperature is so high that it burns.

    Right.
Think it's time you called in a plumber.
