Well I'm liking the new actress a whole lot more

Thankfully they haven't tried to make her be like the previous one and the show feels totally new and better (and she looks like she could actually punch her way out of a wet paper bag)

    Absolute muck.

Lucky the suit was found by someone it fit and knew martial arts, as they subtly mentioned. And history with Alice.
Be a completely different show if some fat dude had found the suit.

    Yeah and the
    plane conveniently crashed
right next to her too. I see they couldn't even get Ruby
to do the voiceover for the letter to Sophie
. In relation to the ending twist with
the injury, it looks like they are using this to give her a disadvantage and show that she can be Batwoman while heavily injured. I'm guessing if Ruby never left we would have had Tommy as Bruce for a lot longer.

Ratings for the first episode were a disaster.

    0.1 rating / just over 600k viewers.
    Can't see this surviving.

I didn't hate the episode though, it was watchable.
Pity they didn't make the Bruce story last a bit longer, they could have had fun with that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,294 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Was thinking it wasn't her voice.

I thought the ratings would be higher with ones like me tuning in out of curiosity. Though I guess if people aren't interested enough to keep up with news about the show, they wouldn't have known

Yeah I think if Ruby had never left, he would have been around longer. In regards to ratings, I don't think they take into account people not watching it live

Could it simply be a case of fatigue with the CW stable of superhero shows? If one's head hasn't been turned by the station's particularly brand of DC heroes by now, it seems hard to imagine how Batwoman was every likely to change folks' opinions - beyond it being tangential to comic royalty & the Bat universe.

Yeah I don't think the show ever had the greatest ratings anyway. I'd say give it a year or two and majority of them will be cancelled if HBO Max is still around as I can see streaming taking over from Cable and network tv

Great editing this week. Did she catch that bat or hit it with something? Then the talking afterwards seemed very poor acting.

Has this show improved? Hearing mixed reviews! Watched the first 2eps and wasn't entirely convinced

I would have watched but it isn’t available on any streaming service here and if previous Arrowverse crossovers are anything to go by I don’t need to watch all the shows.

I don’t like Legends and that didn’t affect crossovers.

I don’t have any enthusiasm for Black Lightening any more.

I did not think it could get any worse that when it had Rose as the lead but I was so wrong this show is just bad. Rachel Skarsten as Alice deserves so much better than whats around her.

As I posted in the Superheroes forum:

    Ruby who?

    https://screenrant.com/arrowverse-batwoman-ruby-rose-crisis-infinite-earths-removed/

Seems they edited Ruby Rose out of a scene from Crisis during a Arrowverse special that aired

Was reading somewhere that the reason they didn't kill her off is because they have faced criticism before about killing gay characters.

Yeah it's the whole Bury Your Gays Trope. An example would have been the killing off of Lexa in The 100 or Sara Lance in Arrow Season 3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,294 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Yeah I remember that fuss. Found it strange considering the whole thing with Clarke was she lost people she loved. Plus the actress had a new role in fear The Walking Dead. Pretty sure the ratio of non gay to gay deaths on that show was pretty high

Tbh I think the writing on this show has gone to pot since they have replaced the main actress. It's not like the replacement is a worse actress then Ruby. Regarding Lexa I think the whole thing looked worse that she was killed off as soon as she got with Clarke and killed by a jealous man too. It was a bit extreme.

Agreed in relation to the whole Lexa thing, could have been done better

When Rose's Departure was first announced, Wallis was one of the people that came up to play Kate. I do see that she just finished filming for a new film so maybe they originally were going to recast Kate with Wallis but due to her being on another project they got Javicia instead to play a new character. I can't see them getting rid of Ryan as Batwoman so I wonder if Kate is just going to be back for a few episodes.

I wonder if they just give her amnesia and then in some sick way Alice finds her, fixes her face and becomes friends with her. Then in the season finale everybody finds out she's Kate who then miraculously gets memory back, passes the Cowl to Ryan and leaves .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,294 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Hopefully for Wallis's sake, they give Kate an all over skin graft to get rid of all of the tattoos.

    How to explain the DNA?
I didn't realise who it was at the end until I read the recast article. Lucky for her that everything that happened didn't affect a tiny chain around her neck

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,204 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

i'd say they are not going to get rid of a Black Batwoman so are just going to bring back Kate to bump her off. I'm surprised they have renewed the show for another year none of the characters gel anymore, even making Alice uninteresting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,294 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

With regards killing Kate they said before, they want to avoid the "bury your gays" trope so bringing her back to show she's still alive is likely going to keep her that way.

Has Mary come out as a lesbian yet? Seems every recurring female character on this series is lesbian, outside of Alice. So she and Mary are the only expendable ones

The constant dwelling on Kate Kane in this season has really spoilt it - should have just completely killed her off in the first episode and moved on. I much prefer the new actress and would rather forget Ruby Rose

I guess the problem is that most of the relationships built up in the show both police and enemies were directly related to their history with Kate Kane. It would be like if they removed Bruce Wayne from the Batman series and replaced him with a totally new character who has no history with any of the established characters. It has become a mess and that is why the ratings would be bad enough to cancel most shows.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,294 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Good job Kate didn't turn up to see who attended her funeral or she might've been disappointed at the turnout.

I know Black Mask wasn't planning on letting her go but telling Batwoman information that could help identify him seemed a bad idea, though why we didn't see her follow up afterwards was strange. But not as strange as the usual question of why didn't he remove her mask?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,204 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

I'm thinking now that they could have got Pennyworth to be temporary Batwoman while they sorted out the Kate Kane casting. Her chemistry with Alice this week really drove the episode forward and seemed natural. She was also linked to all the current characters while with Rider they had to introduce a whole host of uninteresting side characters.

What a load of ****e, why does nearly every support character in the arrowverse have to become a superhero?

Found the finale to be a mixed bag. It has been confirmed that
Dougray Scott and Wallis Day (Jacob and Kate Kane) will not be back next season. Both of their storylines have ended

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,294 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

    Probably for the best.
Means next season can concentrate on Ryan as Batwoman.

So Luke drew what he thought a black Batman would look like and instead of looking like Batman but black, he comes up with a design where his race can't be identified.

So even though the batsuit is body armour, how are they able to take it apart and put it together so easily? Like first Kate did it to suit her, then Ryan, then "Circe" and now team Batwoman.

It's your typical CW plot holes.
Last Season we were told that only Kryptonite can damage the suit after Kate took it apart in the first episode, Ryan probably used Kryptonite to alter it herself and Circe can be seen with a piece of it when she made the tear in the Bat symbol on the suit. The suit itelf seems to be a body suit and then the armor pieces are added on separately

I found the Crows stuff quite inconsistent - on one level they are meant to be a normal private security firm, with paying clients and such. In others they appear to be a quasi Government agency, doing police work (despite there being a normal police force) and in one particular instance Moore, at this point acting director with Kane in the custody of the actual police for his wife’s murder, goes so far as to order the summary execution of Alice without any trial and only doesn’t go through with it because she witnesses (or so she thinks) another character doing the job for her.

I know, “just repeat to yourself it’s just a show, I should really just relax!”
So if they are gone, good riddance - the basic problem season 2 has is that basically every character in the original set up, bar Luke, is somehow related to or went out with Kate - her sister, her dad, her ex-girlfriend, her stepsister. This cuts another tie to the original format and might help the retooled version stand more on its own feet

Definitely the worst show runner of the cw superhero shows. Writes off the main character not once but seemingly twice. With the failing ratings you would think they would have to learnt to compromise.

I wonder if they had planned for Wallis Day to take over but due to scheduling they had to leave if for the second half of the Season. When Ruby Rose left they should have just got a replacement and have the first half of the Season be the whole Kate/Circe plot and have Ryan officially take up the mantle at midseason. Also with the reveal of Ryan's mother not being dead who wants to bet that it will end up being that she is actually Luke's sister

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,204 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

I think the problem is no one cares who Ryan's mother is- suggestion it may be a comic book established villain but that still doesn't make Ryan anything less then a non-entity. I think you can successfully add non-comic book characters as side characters to comic book shows (like Chloe in Smallville or Felicity in Arrow) but a lot of fans just cant accept them immediately as the main characters. Wallis Day was good as Kate but I think if the showrunner goes ahead with her plan for season 3 that may be the last one.
Amazing how some of the older arrowverse shows have had bad writing for a few years but still have better ratings than batwoman.

Victoria Cartagena has joined the cast of The CW’s Batwoman as Renee Montoya — the same DC Comics character she played on Fox’s Gotham.

Robin Givens is set to play Jada Jet, the powerful CEO of Jet Industries

I have to say the Bat car in this is just crap. It's like any generic supercar and absolutely nothing special. The best Bat car was the one from the Christopher Nolan films. Now that was special.

I thought they missed a big opportunity there to have two Batwomem. One could do nights in the city and the days and then they could both team up when there was a big baddie.

As it was I have to say I was disappointed with the final.

So it looks like Poison I've might be appearing next season. I wonder who will star as her?

Batwing must be the scrawniest looking member of the Bat family across all shows. Even Burt Ward's Robin would look intimidating beside him.
