Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

.....changed a tube on my daughters Halfords "Classic Real Raleigh" or something.
About an hour ffs!!!.Sturmey Archer 3 speed, chain all encased in a chain guard "suit of Armour" "impossible to get" at system.

Couldn't release the wheel, actually did in the end to squeeze a tube in.
    Nightmare.

Something I've been dreading since the day we bought it about 3 years ago.

Some bits got cleaned and put onto the frame. One step at a time :).

Can't wait to get the wheels repaired and put them on.

Did a full service (well almost I'm still afraid to touch the wheels after my last disaster) of the Commu-tourer she was even shiny and clean for about 3 minutes before I went outside.

I felt the Marathon on the front stole away some of her elegance so I couldn't resist spicing her up a bit with a new saddle and bartape just to remind the Commu-tourer that she may not be a roadbike but she still has a place in my heart.

And more bits on the bike at my next go (we are nearly there :)):

    10105055014_b73613bb05_z.jpg

Final approval by the house PR Manager before the test ride:

    On the road:

    10105045634_58c7f17a73_z.jpg

At the next phase - the stem needs to be changed to a different size, handle bar to be wrapped with tape and a new cassette is badly needed (or possibly a complete rear wheel).

Some new bits went onto the bike today:

    105 Shifters
    105 Chainset (53/39)
    105 Chain
    105 Rear derailer
    Tiagra Cassette (11-25)
    New brake and gear cables
    New pedals
New saddle with a cut-out (hopefully will help solve the numbness I tend to get on longer spins)

There's a postie in Dublin 7 with the exact same frame as you. I keep on giving him a funny look when I see it cycling past. Lovely job.

Stripped the enduro bike for a good end of season clean and found 14 extremely seized linkage bearings. Bugger. I may have a small lack of mechanical sympathy combined with specialized using pound shop bearings with no grease.

Changed the chain and replaced the 23mm rubinios with 28mm zaffiros ; much more comfortable on the commute even at the same tyre pressure.

Run them at a lower pressure, unless your Rubinios were really under-inflated. It'll be even more comfortable :)

Replaced Chain & brake pads. And gave it a wash!

Full bearing kit into the enduro bike. Surprisingly easier than I thought given the trouble I had doing them on the dh bike!

Bought it a garmin edge 200 for a serious bargain. Now just have to get off my ass and get some mileage on it!

Was out and thought my back caliper wasn't working properly - it seemed to be binding. Got off and checked and realised that it wasn't returning properly after being applied. No idea if I could have fixed it so ordered a new pair of black SRAM Apex online and took the white set off my race bike and transferred them onto the winter bike. Neither bike was clean which meant there was dirt all over the kitchen floor - I tidied up but I don't have the same high standards as my wife so she had to redo it. (Years of not doing things right still haven't led to her just doing things without me having to screw them up first...)

I believe that's the right thing to do. I've decided to go from white bar tape to black bar tape and matching brake calipers are important. Having a multibike family means that the winter bike gets the hand me downs. :)

I fitted carbon bottle cages to my F5, and a chain catcher and fitted 3T Ergonova bars and a Prologo Zero saddle to my winter bike.

Today I (with a lot of help) got my old pedals off and my shimano spd pedals on.
Did about 20km then with my new mtb shoes and the pedals and had no falls.
I noticed a significant difference with the new shoes

They got "longer", as I replaced the handlebards with 20mm narrower at the same time (same model bars).

After exactly 24 hours travelling and hoping all the ground staff in Baltimore, Boston and Dublin airports were going to treat my carefully packed box nicely, I unwrapped this first thing...

    11780806136_18e0cd6e57_c.jpg

Went for a nap, got back up and fought the jetlag by starting on it...

Hitting the 'Order' button on Wiggle as soon as my head is clear to get the rest of the parts before the week is out.

Then I fitted a new VO saddle on herself's bike...

You are right, I just come back from a 30k test run and one must have been very slightly loose. A few other small adjustments and I have found my steed for the ROK.

I love it, 9.4kg fully loaded and makes a very smooth ride.

Finally after a pretty crappy month of commuting to work, I cleaned up the bike and fitted Crud roadracer mk2's, I had to cut the wider section behind the crank as their was just no way it would line up otherwise(anyone else have that problem?) Anyway Hopefully these will make the ol commute a little more comfortable and keep the bike a little cleaner;)

I did my first proper bit of bike maintenance today. The chain was dropping a little when freewheeling so rather than getting it tangled in the spokes/ ripping the derailleur off and all that merriment I decided to take the rear hub apart, get the cassette off and lube up the freewheel.
All went well after the initial "Oh sh!te there's ballbearings everywhere". Probably should have looked at Youtube before I started:rolleyes:
Took my time, cleaned everything, greased it up, put it back together and now it's spinning like new.
I made my own chain whip tool too, no point doing DIY if you can't get a bit Maguyver with it :)

Have those on my bike. Great for keeping a large percentage of gunk off mechs as well as oneself. Had to cut a bit off rear guard as well - think they are designed like that as may need longer to fit some bikes properly.

Some SKS mudguards and some other finishing bits came along for my 'good' bike today. After getting a wet arse, soggy feet and road crap on my chainset on a recent stormy spin, I was really looking forward to getting a set of full mudguards on it. Went straight at it, but lacked some confidence, fiddled around until the wheels ran smoothly, took a step back and... It looked horrible. Gah!

They came right off and they're waiting beside my 'town' bike - Job for Monday evening. Should have saved up and went for these.
