Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

All The guest houses are generally top class and budget friendly.
Night life is generally focused around barro Alta, which is basically the area at the top of the hill. There’s a good metro and tram system along with cheap taxis. So anywhere in the city is good.
For a day trip get the DART equivalent out to Belem or cascais.

I have yet to make it out to Sintra but it’s meabt to be a great place to visit outside of Lisbon

    Sintra is worth doing.
Loads to do in Lisbon itself. It has a huge aquarium in the Parc de Nacoes( park of the nations). Just don't eat in the Irish bar!
Belem and the cafe there as well.
Its table service in the back. Get a cake and coffee

Watch our for pickpockets and "sunglasses vendors" bloody everywhere. When someone comes towards you 'selling sunglasses' when you're already wearing sunglasses it's fairly obvious what their game is

The elevator up to the Barrio Alto isn't worth the queue. You can use the escalators - without a ticket, as they're before the game - in the metro station that has entrances at both levels if you don't want to walk

The food hall in the old markets is a very easy if very touristy way to get late food easily. Some of the stands are ridiculously expensive by Portuguese standards - so ok by Irish ones! - but there are still good value ones

Lots of free museums that just take your nationality down for tourism stats - maritime museum in Belem, the central bank museum are ones I remember. Mentioning Belem, the queues can be utterly insane for the cafe there. Go for a wander around the semi ruined botanical gardens if you're out there

Don't bother with the old tram tour - it's rammed and you'll probably get pickpocketed. Go take one on a more normal route, it's just as quaint when quieter!

You need to just walk into the back of the cafe. Most of the queues are for take away.

We stayed in the Marriott when there and it was surprisingly cheap for July. I think it was around €200 for 3 nights. It was a bit out but there was a metro stop nearby and taxis were very very cheap. Lisbon was lovely. There were some great hill top bars overlooking the city which are nice to stop off for an afternoon drink. The aquarium is a nice way to pass a few hours too. I enjoyed the viewing platform on top of the Santa Justa Lift. There are a few funiculars about to take you up the hills. There's a real sense of faded glory in Lisbon as well.

It's name is Oceanarium and it is the second largest aquarium in Europe.
Alfama and Mouraria are some of the most typical places of lisbon "bairros" and where you can hear fado in houses dedicated to this portuguese musical style.

Pasteis de Belém is a traditional cake from Belem near the Jeronimos Monastery.

If you want a breathtaking view of the city I recommend that you visit the Miradouro das Portas do Sol or Miradouro de Nossa Senhora do Monte. Passing the 25th April bridge by car is also stunning.

Museu dos Coches is one of the best to visit, even for those who do not like museums... There you can see old cars and carriages used in the Portuguese monarchist era.

Pickpockets usually they are in crowded places like trams, metro, buses... Transport network is very good and cheap, taxis are cheap and honest however at the airport there may be some opportunists, better book on the official website with a fixed price.

The oceanarium has some of the only sea otters in Europe; they weren't holding hands when I went to visit, which they should be made do at all times :pac:

There's a science museum beside the aquarium that's really good fun if that's your bag... quite hands on
