Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I calculated the VRT for a 2008 car with 86,000 miles on the clock but yet nothing is offered off the cost for mileage?

why is there no allowance for VRT on this car?

    cheers,

    Kev

There are a load of rules for reductions around this which you can read here: http://www.revenue.ie/en/about/foi/s16/vehicle-registration-tax/vrt-manual-section-08.pdf

I think the average mileage they allow is about 15k a year or so. On a 6 year old car that would be 90k miles. So you get no discount for mileage if the car is under that.

I was looking at 2 identical 2011 cars, one registered in march and one in September.
Both had the same mileage, and the one registered in September had a lower VRT quote because it was less than 36 months old and got a higher mileage allowance.

Simplest answer is that because 86k miles is not excessive for 2008 car.
Mileage reduction applies only for mileage which is excessive for age of the car (above the average)

You're meant to claim back a portion of the VRT if the mileage is very high.

Have a look at the link posted by Paulkk for more info about what the revenue consider to be excessive mileage.
