Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,
I'm planning on building a climbing wall out in the back garden for my two girls. From reading threads on here, I'm thinking marine plywood would be the best option for the wood?? I want to make it as weather proof as possible so I'm looking for recommendations. Should I be looking at an epoxy coating or yacht varnish or is there anything else out there?
    Thanks

    How many sheets of ply?

Phenolic resin board would do the job best IMHO.

Epoxy finishes can I believe be very slippy when wet, not sure about yacht varnish

Just mentioning it as a potential safety consideration.

Also make sure that your actually getting marine ply, friends club got stung by a local hardware with mislabeled ply.

Would you use the phenolic resin plywood, it's used in trailer floors , one brand is buffalo board, Strahans in rathcoole could be worth a try.

Thanks guys. It'll be one or two sheets of plywood I'll be doing, depends on what size they come in. They'll be attached to the garden wall so don't think it being too slippy will be an issue as they'll just be using the climbing holds. Will have to see if any place in Cork stock that stuff ye recommend

Another one for Phenolic resin board look up H&L supplies, Good marine ply is hard to find in this country and when you do encapsulating it in epoxy can also be tricky and expensive you will also have to varnish over the epoxy with yacht varnish as epoxy has no UV protection on it's own.
