Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

One of the seven names for Heron (the bird)

    Hi all,

    I was listening to a radio doc or some type of drama today and they mentioned the seven Irish names for the bird heron, the big one that sits by streams. One of then struck me as it sounds like a place name that I often pass through and I often see a heron by the stream. The name they said sounded like coorglas, but I could be wrong.

    Any idea if there is an Irish name for heron that sounds like that and what is the correct spelling?

    You were pretty close!
    corr3, f. (gs. coirre, npl. ~a, gpl. ~). 1. ~ (éisc, ghlas, mhóna, réisc, riasc), (grey) heron

    "Corr ghlas" would be one of the names for the grey heron.

    Thank you, that is astounding. The place got its name who knows how long ago and there is still a heron there every now and again looking into the stream to see what's for dinner tonight.
