Family petrol hatchback

Looking to change our 2011 2.0 diesel Mondeo hatchback.

Thinking of getting a petrol instead of diesel as we live in a city and do mostly short commutes.

Main requirement is a big boot and comfortable for longer family day trips.

The only option I can find that ticks all the boxes is the Skoda Octavia petrol. Seems to come in 1.0 or 1.2.

We really like the Mondeo in terms of the size and storage but feel a petrol car is a better option.

Not really into cars so any advise/opinions welcome.

Octavia wouldn’t be a bad shout, it’ll be a similar idea to your current car in terms of boot etc, obviously it’s a smaller car, but not a whole lot smaller.

Golf or Leon estate might suit too.

You can also get that 1.4 engine in 150bhp form, but they're few and far between.

They are both closer in size to the Mondeo. The Superb is a hatch back(liftback) but looks like a saloon. VW passat is nice too but is saloon so smaller boot opening.
Superb is cheaper, but easier to get big stuff in to. Petrol tank is a little on the samll size in the superb.

VW passat there are more petrol onse on the market in Ireland that thhe Petrol superb so more choice.
Might need to look at UK market if you want the Skoda superb petrol as more choice there on second had markert in UK.

A 2017 Superb would be the newer model which the boot is a conventional hatch opening.

Indeed. the pre 2017 open as a saloon or hatch. Post 2017 only opens as a hatch.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

It has to be a hatchback I think as I have to be able to get a kids bike into the boot.

The superb seems to be over my budget so it seems the Octavia is the best option.

Will moving from a 2.0 diesel to a 1.2 petrol feel a major step back for me in terms of driving pleasure and power?

Petrol can feel quite nippy and there shouldn't be much difference especially as your just city commuting.

Octavia boot is bigger than mondeo so your actually getting more space storage wise.
