Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    What is ground rent?

We got a letter in the door today from some Auctioneers in Pearse Street - a bill for 19 euro for ground rent.....

Anyone got any ideas what it is?

Historically you could sell a building without selling the land under it. You then charged "ground rent" for use of this land. If I am correct you are legally entitled to buy out the land for 7 times the annual ground rent.

I will do a search for you.

If you are renting your property from your landlord, I believe he is responsible for paying it.

Separately, check out the bona fides of the solicitor.

A quick read of the following indicates 9 years rent plus a transfer fee. However you need to read all the acts together. There are complications for subdivided buildings.

    Cheers, Victor.

I'll tell my landlord about what youve found there. When I showed him the letter, he was completely clueless as to what it was....
