You view an item that says it’s current bid is £5. You bid £5.50 and immediately you’re outbid to a higher price. You then bid a higher price and again immediately you’re outbid.
How does this happen and how can you avoid it?

Someone put on automatic bidding on the item. Whatever you bid they will auto bid 50c higher. Until you reach the maximum price they indicated they are willing to bid.
Only way is to keep going until you either reach your max or their max.

When you bid you can put in the maximum you're willing to spend. eBay will bid on your behalf up to this amount.

So if someone has said their maximum for the item you're bidding on is €10 eBay will keep bidding for them until someone bids €11 or whatever the increments are over €10.

So what you're seeing is eBay auto bidding and not someone sitting there and rebidding everytime they're outbid.
