I hear there's a few others dropping off the panel who weren't getting game time.

I hear there's a few others dropping off the panel who weren't getting game time.

It's a poor reflection on management and the drip drip nature of the new appointment. The players are only an after thought and now theyve bitten back. Only in Clare is the cloak and dagger still part of appointing managers. There should be an open interview situation, panel of 3 or 4 and off you go. May the best man win. Moloney shouldn't be staying on by himself. They weren't good enough when there was two. 2 of the biggest beatings followed by a good phyrric victory reminded me of the 'Olde' times of plucky Clare putting in a big performance but not one that really mattered.
Duggan is a hot and cold type player but he has developed a level of consistency over the past few years. Would I be surprised to see him hit a daisy cutter free a mile wide 40 yards out in front of the posts ...? No I wouldn't but he brings alot to the party and in this Clare team he is a talisman. Kelly will be back on the frees and doesnt really do well with the responsibility they bring. His own 'childish' type exuberance is stifled with the free taking responsibility. Kelly has never really developed into the type of player Clare hoped for...he cant take a game by the scruff of the neck but he is still a very good player..
Where to now? Moloney will get the job and I cant see us getting top 3 next year..no chance even though with the right gameplan and all our players we have the capacity to do damage. It'll be another year wasted . The boys of 2013 that never grew up...all still boys in mans world.

problem with the 2013 team is there was more in that team just the man in charge at the time lost the plot . his attitude at that time between 2014 and 16 was really unhelpful

in his defense i would say he is one of the most sought after coach's in the country and rightly so ,his record is serious to be fair , he has given wexford there best summer since 96 , he gave us our best summer since 97 but he let the pressure of having to win a 2nd all ireland get to him

the underage system failed afterwards too after several poor appointments at intercounty underage level plus the newly found high expectations within the county did not help

the backbone of the 2013 team was heavily bolstered by cratloe ballyea and clonlara . to be fair the standard has dropped in club hurling in recent years and very few clubs look to be stepping up to the plate

one example would be clarecastle , last year i watched them get hammered by cratloe in round 3 , just to my right was stephen sheedy , anthony daly and several more ex club and inter county hurlers looking on wondering what went wrong with there club , daly was managing a dublin club at the time , things like this dont happen in tipperary or kilkenny , if ritchie hogan or paul murphy found themselves managing a club 100 miles away while there club danesfort were struggling they would be told where to go
also , clubs in danesfort, glenmore , james stephens, o'loughlins gaels ect all get hit with immigration and loss of players for one reason or another and still turn over serious talent

we will never see a consistent run of championship runs or all irelands in this county while the club system is struggling , if changes are to be made then the underage structures have to change , to start with west and north clare , the county board really need to set up development hurling squads in these areas form u10s level up to get the most out of the talent in the county and start again ,

to be fair we are miles behind most counties at the moment , i suppose we just got lucky so many good lads came through together at the time problem is counties like ours will only experience success once every 15 or 20 years , several structural changes and even attitude at club level have to change

we can blame county boards , managers whoever , but the reality is it as 3 or 4 hard working clubs that got us to where we were in 2013 and that's what we got to go back to again

Round up of the 3 senior football 1/4 finals , cratloe were seriously impressive against last years runners up ennistymon excellent performances from diarmuid ryan , cathal mcinerney and podge forged out an excellent win and probably leaves the duel club now as favorites

not far behind them is kilmurry ibrickane , they pretty much controlled the 60 minutes against kilmihil in a professional manner in a heated contest in doonbeg , two stephen moloney penalties the difference in the end

Holders Miltown held off a late lissycasey challenge to advance to the last 4 , the holders have yet to look like the team of 12 months ago and struggled over the line , had lissycaseys shooting not let them down we could be talking about their exit tonight , excellent individual performances from the two clearys and Darragh mcdonagh for the winners

Clondegad restored senior status in a dog fight in the first of the two relegation semi finals , kilrush pushed them all the way to the end , a couple of monster gary brennan points in the second half and an excellent day in front of the posts by both barry toner and podge mcmahon has the 2017 runners up safe

kilrush will have to repeat the same level of fight in two weeks time if they want to stay senior ,and even then it might be too late for last years intermediate champions

    CRATLOE 1-16

3 teams that were regular senior county finalists less then 10 years ago , had mixed fortunes today

doora/barefield grinded out a win against wolfe tones in clooney , shannon gaels had young thomas kelly to thank as his goal was the difference against the next door neighbours ,both sides through to the last 4

i imagine it was a surreal watch for liscannor and kilkee supporters as there sides battle to stay in the second tier of clare football both clubs contested county finals in the last 10 years and now fighting to avoid junior level football

Naomh Eoin were hit with two late goals by the townies second team who stay inter for next year , a fantastic achievement for a reserve team and shows just how much the club is progressing at the moment

Naomh Eoin will meet either liscannor or kilkee in the relegation final

in the junior A championship the men from the burran saw off the men from east clare in the first of the semi finals , cusacks will face either . The Banner or neighbours Ballyvaughan in the final

    intermediate 1/4 finals

Doora Barefield 1-10 0-8 Wolfe Tones Shannon

    Shannon Gaels 1-10 0-10 Coolmeen

    Intermediate relegation semi finals

    Éire Óg Ennis(2) 3-09 2-10 Naomh Eoin
    Kilkee 1-10 1-10 Liscannor AET

    JFC A Semi final

Michael Cusacks 1-09 1-06 Clooney Quin

despite the new tv channel that is actually not on any actual tv station

it is quiet possible that the draw could be rushed together anywhere from a bunker in baghdad to clareabbey in the next 24 to 48 hours ,

probably monday night but last week they conducted the hurling draws for the next round while at least one game was still in progress which makes no sense , it will be up on the clare tv channel whenever it takes place ....

Unbelievable finish to this one , for anyone that missed it , eire og controlled this game for the best part of 55 minutes leading 1-03 to 0-10 points and looked to be cantering to the semi final as favorites , david tubridy kicked a free shortly after to keep the small element of doubt in eire ogs heads with 3 minutes remaining

then all hell broke lose , first eoin tubridy found the back of the net on the 59th minute to level the game , eire og's paddy o'malley converted a penalty 2 minutes into injury time to put the townies 3 up again ,

david tubridy chipped over a consolation free or so it looked like 4 minutes into stoppage time ,before doonbeg won the next kick out and converted again , from the next kick out colm dillon won the break and put it over the bar 6 minutes into stoppage time , complete snatch and grab job

extra time like normal time eire og controlled , led by 1 point in injury time of extra time , then eoin tubridy got his 3rd goal of the day against the run of play , again eire og lost the kick out and from about 40 yards out david tubridys high speculative drop shot in around the square missed everyone and ended up in the back of the net

eire og were the championship favorites and had this game won on several occasions but somehow managed to throw it away

    Doonbeg scorers

David tubridy 0-7 Eoin Tubridy 3-0 Enda Doyle 1-0 colm dillion 0-1

    Eire og

    Gavin Cooney 0-6 , Eimhin Courtney 0-3 , Paddy O'Malley 1-0 ,Philip Talty 0-2 ,David Reidy 0-1

edit it was actually enda doyle with the last goal for doonbeg

the ladies senior and intermediate finals took place today also

Huge celebrations taking place in kilmihil tonight as they finally got the better of the banner in the senior final , the return of edel mcmahon and eimear considine form their rugby exploits with the irish national team , and eimear's sister ailish who recently won a ladies afl title with adelaide crows were huge additions to the panel , its very much seen as a huge achievement around here and will be most definitely be celebrated , hard luck to the banner

hopefully a good run in the munster championship will follow

in the intermediate final miltown missed a last minute penalty in a heartbreaking defeat to cooraclare

    intermediate final
    Cooraclare 1-11 Miltown 1-9

    senior final
    Kilmihil 3-12 0-10 The Banner

i think its shocking he has no involvement with his own club who are in his own words the whipping boys of clare senior hurling at the moment , clarecastle used to be one of the more decorated clubs in the county up to a few years ago

wouldn't rule out a shot at the waterford gig , but unlikely

He was just what we needed when he was over the county, but he has brought nothing to Crokes. They were like headless chickens today, and some of the decisions made on the line in the drawn final and replay last year probably cost them the match,

His stock is falling. Can't see too many bashing his door down.

one you are in the public eye you always will be involved with a high profile set up , banty mcenaney in monaghan is a perfect example

but you are right some of his line calls can be very strange to say the least

round up of the other games today , diarmuid o'donnell kicked 0-5 point while emmett mcmahon kicked 1-2 in kildysarts win over kilfenora, while aidan davidson kicked 0-6 points and 1-02 from pauric kelly helped st breckans to a very comfortable win over o'currys both sides probably the top two favorites to go up from intermediate they will go into the draw with shannon gaels and doora barefield tomorrow in the last 4

one of them 4 will replace the loser of corofin v kilrush at senior level next year , cooraclare were too strong for the north clare men

the junior A final will be The Banner v Michael cusacks , the lahinch road team got the better of ballyvaughan with a late flurry of scores in the last 10 minutes

    Senior Champ Relegation semi-final:

    Cooraclare 5 – 11 Corofin 0 – 14

    Intermediate Champ Quarter-finals:
    St. Breckans 1 – 11 O’Curry’s 0 – 06
    Kildysart 3 – 10 Kilfenora 0 – 08

    Junior A Champ semi-finals:
    Banner 2 – 09 Ballyvaughan 1 – 10

    Junior B Champ semi-finals:
    Corofin (2) 1 – 09 St. Breckans (2) 1 – 06
    Clondegad (2) 1 – 16 Eire Og (3) 0 – 06

Cratloe have the most talent of the teams left but they are in the hurling aswell so hard to see them doing the double again..but youd never know. Cratloe is a small parish geographically and small enough in population. But the quality is huge and alot of their players parents would be from outside Clare so great dynamic in that club and it's well run. Now compare that to Eire Og. A town like Kilarney can have 3 or 4 senior clubs..Ennis have one and they disappoint every year in both codes. The town is crying out for an alternative to Eire Og. Maybe the Banner can provide it because Eire Ogs results over the last 20 years are so so disappointing. They have some great people and they say they have 'Town' problems (funny other towns of similar population dont have them...Tralee,Kilkenny,Clonmel ect...).

Ennis has been destroyed by years of mismanagement by Eire Og, it'll be 30 years next year since they last won the hurling championship and 14 for the football, considering the pick they have that's a terrible return. It used to be said the worst player to be was the best player in a position shared with a son of someone involved in the club because you were never going to get played. Saying that they've done great strides at underage and have won a few underage championships, but they were/are still in B in a few age groups so they might be getting things right.

Banner gaa club are catching up to them serious underage coming threw they beat micheal cusacks theyll be up 2 intermidate....as for the hurlers it wont be long till theyll be out off junior some turn around tbh...

The Banner has put in great development and in my opinion it's all down to the brilliant underage structures that they put in place years ago which were copied by Eire Og. It also helps of course that there's been a massive population growth around that side of town.

Are Cratloe the team to beat now in the football?

The reigning county champions are the team to beat in the football. They are strong in every line and well managed, they showed last year in the Munster club that they are a very decent outfit.
Cratloe would be second favourites, followed by KIB with Doonbeg as outsiders.
Doonbeg will be buzzing after sickening Eire Og yesterday and are in bonus territory now and will have a right cut off whoever they meet.

A bit harsh! Two senior teams beaten in quarter finals this year, junior A champions in both codes last year. 21A football champions last year.
Outside of Cratloe and the exceptional group of players they have is their another club competing on so many fronts as successfully?
Accept your points on 30 yr gap for hurling and gap in football but “ destroyed by years of mismanagement”. The biggest error they made during that time period was allowing themselves to be convinced that urban board model and dividing town into 4 was a good idea. It failed miserably. Both the Banner and Eire Og now control their underage structures which in time will prove fruitful imo. More luck to them.
I’ve never witnessed a bias toward sons of fathers playing in over twenty years involvement and my father never played or was involved in club. Off starting team against Bridge maybe 1 played for club. In football starting team I’d say none. So that assertion doesn’t stack up either.
Cratloe are blueprint of how to run a dual club. Eire Og and Banner seem to recognize this now. Hopefully D Barefield will do same soon.

Amazing that these 4 clubs are the only ones to win a championship this decade and their all there on the last year.. and that Miltown KIB final is cursed has nearly happened every year but they haven't even met at any stage which is a pity.
