Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

GR is hail, GS is Grauple.

Also, I don't see any deterioration imminent, are you referring to the TEMPO 4000? Nothing about wind or precip.

Surely most winter time hail is GS? I'd say it always reported as GS over here just like when have you ever seen SNRA in a taf? Always RASN

I know GS is normally graupel or "soft hail", but I note that Met Éireann always seem to use it for hail instead of GR. I don't think I've ever seen them use GR, at any time of the year.

Yes, I was referring to the reducing visibility and cloudbase.

Well the TAF just issued doesn't apply until from midnight, so I'm sure they must see no more storms after that.

Quite likely yes, however it was not in the 5pm either, nor was it amended.

    Such thunderstorms are uncommon however.

Looks like the parameters there for thunderstorms overnight and into tomorrow apart from DLS which is to the S overnight.

It would seem the majority of the thunderstorms maturing along Atlantic counties and losing the electrification before reaching the Eastern side of the country overnight.

Massive flash came in the window here in West Clare, nice bang after it, however was roughly 20 seconds afterwards.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 12,079 Mod ✭✭✭✭Meteorite58

Looking at the trough set to travel down over the country tomorrow and looking at the convective charts wondering could the SW, S and SE get a round of thunderstorms in the afternoon ? Should be some sferics along Atlantic coastal counties as well.

Will still be under very cold uppers, 850hPa temps bit less then today.

My Facebook account lit up over yesterday evening thunderstorm in the Limerick area. I heard four claps of thunder and two flashes of lightening. One flash was near enough to tingle my landline phone and instant thunder. Didn't lose power but according to the Limerick Leader and some of my friends posting on Facebook there were power outages nearby areas in rural Co. Limerick as a result. Did not notice anything between 10 and around 11 pm last night. Watching Katie Taylor boxing on TV.

A lot of lightning reports around Kerry today especially this morning. The S and SE didn't feature today. The hail showers keep coming, belting off the house here near Tralee atm.

MT was mentioning the passage of the cold front in Australia with severe storms.

Looking like a convective set up post front tomorrow evening, hail forecast and wondering if we could get a few sporadic thunderstorms moving inland towards evening?

Must be why Estofox have issued a level 2 for the south coast and a level one for the southern part of the country.

Although mainly for severe wind gusts.
