Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Flash Contest Max Wind Gust and Location from ex-Katia

    Flash contest to see who can predict the highest wind gust recorded from the storm system approaching at the moment, and at which Met Eireann Station it will be recorded.

    Gusts between midday on Sunday and Midday on Tuesday will be counted.

    Scoring as follows:

    5 points for correct location.

    Up to 15 points for correct speed in knots. Lose one point for every knot error.

    No prizes!!! ( unless someone wants to volunteer one . . .:P)


    Competition closes at 3.00 a.m. Sunday morning.

    Malin is probably more sheltered than Belmullet in a WSW wind so I'll try

    I wonder will Finner come close to any of Belmullet or Malins readings. Its on Donegal Bay.
    Real Pity there isn't a weather station on Rossan Point (Most Westerly Point in Donegal), I'm sure it would rival Belmullet.

    Wow, you guys aren't buying into this downgrade at all.

    I really expect something like 70 kts at Belmullet from the guidance at present, but I am going to throw in a wild card prediction based on something that could happen and probably won't, a gusty thunderstorm cell happening to catch a weather station full blast.

    So my entry will be Casement 72 knots

    (more likely we'll hear about such a wind gust inland either anecdotally from a weather report or news item)

    Grand but you're only getting 2.5 points for location if it's one of those on a different figure!!!
