    isnt it easier to have a thread with races that are on and the glass half full thread
    and races that are cancelled and the glass half empty thread.
    i would agree more than unlikely at the moment barcelona to happen
    the best so far was to postpone duisburg 70.3 when they apparantly did not even have an agreed bike course. something many organicers before did try to achieve and failled and it would appear not even ironman did get there but postponed the race anyway. ( still i do feel for ironman at the moment i think their hamburg plans where naive and duisburg a joke but at the same time what else do you do if you have roughly 300 million euro of debt(

    see the cancelled Kona as well. First time in 43 years.

    My question just out of interest is are Ironman pushing everybody into next years races or are they refunding?

    They are offering either a transfer to another race this year - not much use, or deferral to next year.

    It’s Ironman - no (full) refunds!

    in a few countries ( germany for sure) they do offer refund now it goes like this in germany if you dont do the race by i think december 2021 you get the money back.
    you get there now vouchers rather than being forced to defer to a race they tell you and if you dont use it they have to refund.

    felix in roth did give people who demanded the full money back the money , but he also said those people will not do another roth...

    challenge heilbron gave all the money back and the race will not happen again in the future as the company is bankrupt now.


    iam not saying they will go under but they are certainly not in an easy situation right now.

    It's a sh*te situation for all. It's not Ironmans fault that all the races were cancelled but not the fault of participants either, end of the day IM are down the cash either way given they are not selling 2021 slots, so makes sense to refund those who want it and keep your customers happy..and then offer entry to next years race and options of free/cheaper transfers to other races to those who don't want to take a refund.
    Ironman will refill the slots they refund. Most likely is that the money we paid 12 months ago to race this year probably paid for last years races and now with no money coming in for 2021 races they are stuck.

    i understand your personal frustration .
    but i guess the answer is cash flow and that ironman changed owner at the start of the covid pandemic and that sale was finalized just a few weeks ago.

    for instance even though fellix has sold out roth for 2021 he cant use that money yet and has to take a credit to pay the stuff , at least thats german tax law. at least thats how he says it .

    iam not saying what you say is not right and i agree that ironman is not helping themselfves at the moment, but what iam saying is you likely oversimplyfy it. becasuse i guess if it was as straightforward as you make it they likely would have done it
    also dont forget they were for sale this year and this likely had an impact what they could do and what not.

    Try-the-Hook sprint has just been postponed until 2021, frustrating as next weekend is so close. Must be a nightmare to be organising races at the moment.

    It’s a perfect sh!t storm now. The advice is contradictory and confusing. I’ve spoken to a couple of public and occupational health specialists this evening (goes with my job) and they’re confused so what hope do we have :). Evidence based decision making seems to have gone out the window.

    Maybe I’m just p!ssed off as I was a dead cert for a sub 10hr Hardman ....................(bike that is). I was due to do two races in the coming weeks, Hardman and the Island Swim, that would have kept me going through the winter. I think I’ll struggle with motivation over the long hard winter to come with the likelihood that there’ll be no races to train for.

    Yeah I was down for Hardman, Glendalough... mind you I guess I could just still do them solo, wouldn't have been breaking any records. I've a local 10k charity swim in a few weeks which should be something to look forward to.

    Its the guys who have been training for Hardman, and the organisers I feel most sorry for, this really would have been the year for that race to shine.

    "The GAA have issued a public invite to Acting Chief Medical Officer Ronan Glynn to "present the empirical evidence which informed the requirement for the Association to curtail its activities" following today's announcement that all sport would go behind-closed-doors until September 13.

    this is not really correct isnt it
    sport has not been banned its the before and after that has been banned
    which TI had banned anyway.
    in a way sport was kind of allowed to go ahead. it was defo given a clearance to go over 15.
    of course its hard to see a gov organisation to put their head too much out of the window , but it could be a bit too early to say the glass has been smashed.
    we were bellow the 230 people that was mentioned as well....

    Agree with you going by the letter of the law. But would you have confidence in the current line up of NPHET and Govt not to come out with further contradictory restrictions in the next week or two? If you were an event organiser would you take the risk of going ahead, incurring costs and expenses, only for the Govt. to turn around on the eve of your event and say "actually, what we meant by xyz last week, was abc"? Or would you say "f**k this, I'm just making the call now and cancelling/ rescheduling for next year."

    What businesses need, more so than anyone else, is certainty. Granted, that can't be provided to the normal degree for reasons outside everyone's control, but the diktat of the Govt. the last month or so has been to increase uncertainty and heighten fear.

    You are right its not really correct, it depends on how these new contradictory rules are defined by governing bodies.

    Some good news in that regard came this morning from Swim Ireland- "In relation to Open water events that have been planned these can proceed provided that all is in line with previous protocols issued with strict measures in place and no organised specators." Hopefully TI follow suit and offer a similar interpretation.

    I have a 7 day plan, day 1 of which is a rest day, day 2 is endurance, day 3 is speed work, day 4 is step back, days 5 and 6 are taper, with race day on day 7.
