Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

hi I am looking for a genealogy professional company to track down my irish ancestors. My great grand father had the name Patten among his many other names and my grand aunts always told me he the name was Irish from Donegal. I would like to confirm this and know exactly where we are from. Please could you suggest a good irish genealogy company who can help us?
    Thanks

Well, Eneclann are good: their basic package is (afaik) €350 for 10 hours research.

You could make a start yourself. You'd need to work back through your family's civil records - you don't say what country you're from. If you already know he's your great-great grandfather, presumably you've done some work. If it's a middle name, then it's possible that his mother had that surname. CoI and Presbyterians often did that.

Irish Ancestors shows the name dispersal for Patten (plus variant spellings)
    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/index.cfm?Surname=patten&fuseaction=Go.

It is most common in Donegal and Mayo.
