Murty going a long way to getting the permanent position, not just winning but with style and goals!

1-4 FT. Goss, Morelos and Kerr from them. Lads played really well until it went to 0-4 and they took their foot off the gas after that. Poor defending for their goal.

What an easy game, St Johnstone offered nothing.

Once again though it seems perfectly fine to kick one of our players off the pitch without so much as a yellow.

    So Celtic In the semi
Happy enough but never out of second gear. Really have to wonder how a ref can only book someone for a deliberate punch in the haw maws

    Morelos signs until 2021

ANGERS are delighted to confirm that Alfredo Morelos has signed a new contract with the club.

The Colombian striker and joint league top scorer is the latest player to commit his future to the Light Blues and his new deal will see him at the Gers until 2021.

Morelos joined the club on a three year contract in the summer from HJK Helsinki and has been a revelation this season already, scoring seventeen goals in all competitions for the Gers and seventeen goals for HJK before joining the club.

Speaking of his delight at signing a new deal, Morelos said: “I am very happy to have signed a new contract with Rangers.

“I know how important the club is in Scotland, how many titles that it has won and how much history that it has. I am really happy here and I am working hard for the team.

“I love it when the fans show their support to me and sing to me. I’m really grateful for their support and want to repay them with performances on the pitch.”
Light Blues manager Graeme Murty also gave his reaction to the Colombian extending his stay at Rangers. He said: “We are delighted that Alfredo has committed his future to the club today.

“He is a very talented player and one that we know we can work with to make even better.
“He has a massive opportunity at this club and we feel that he can continue to improve and even realise his international ambitions here at Rangers and help the club to challenge for silverware.”

Morelos began his career at Independiente Medellin in his homeland before moving to HJK, initially on loan for last season, before his move was made permanent at the start of 2017.

His season on loan in the Finnish capital was equally impressive as he netted 30 goals in 43 games, with four of them coming in the Europa League qualifying round.

He is the first Colombian to sign for the Light Blues, and made his debut at Ibrox in July before bagging his first Gers goal against Dunfermline in the League Cup.

    1-1 Rogic

Good game with great intensity. I do think the Rangers goalkeeper was a bit naughty with his high studs on Tierney

Don’t think it was that bad even Walker who saw it when it happened in the replay praise Fod for the way he covered and closed Tierney down

2-2 HT. Conceded a horrible goal right before HT. Dropped off after scoring the second. Need to keep pressing them higher up the pitch. Boyata is a weak link for them.

    Nothing in that for me.

2-3 FT. Really disappointed with how we played after they went down to ten. Morelos missed an absolute sitter with about ten minutes to go, which I still can't get over.

You were well in that today.... Obviously the quality showed through in the end even after the soft red gave you the advantage. Could have ruined the game but thankfully didn't. Almost stole a draw at the end there too.
Better performance than most of you were expecting surely?

That miss at the end must be miss of the season in any league.

You went up against the biggest and best team in the country. Took the lead twice and only lost by one goal... you expected a better result? Madness.

Tough one to take, but I guess this shows the difference between having someone like Rodgers and Murty. They went a man down and brought on a striker, Murty did nothing at all.

Windass was absolutely anonymous bar his goal, and should have been taken off a lot sooner.
And Morelos really needs to up his finishing, the amount of piss easy chances he's missed this season is pathetic.

    Morelos drops to the bench

GRAEME MURTY has made two changes to his starting eleven for today’s match against Kilmarnock at Ibrox.

Russell Martin comes back into the side in to replace David Bates who picked up an injury against Celtic and will miss six weeks with an ankle injury, while Jason Cummings replaces Alfredo Morelos in attack.

Martin will partner Bruno Alves in the centre of defence, with James Tavernier continuing as captain from the right hand side and Welsh cap Declan John on the left in front of Wes Foderingham in goal.

Today’s programme feature player Sean Goss continues in the midfield engine room alongside Greg Docherty.

Daniel Candeias, who signed a new contract at the club this week, plays on the right hand side, with Jamie Murphy continuing on the left hand side.

Cummings leads the line up front with Josh Windass playing just behind him.

On the bench today is Jak Alnwick, Fabio Cardoso, Andy Halliday, Jason Holt, Kenny Miller,Alfredo Morelos and Eduardo Herrera.

RANGERS: Foderingham, Tavernier, Alves, Martin John, Goss, Docherty, Candeias, Windass, Murphy, Cummings
SUBS: Alnwick, Cardoso, Halliday, Holt, Miller, Morelos, Herrera.

Any idea what the logic behind that change is? This is going to be a very tough game.

No way Murty should be even offered the job. This is pathetic.

Knew it was going to be a tough game. Killie looking like they have an extra man out there and they are hungrier than we are. Deserve to be ahead. Hard to see us coming back.

Niko’s contract terminated by mutual consent. I would ah him well

    https://rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/niko-kranjcar/

RANGERS can today confirm Niko Kranjcar’s contract has been terminated by mutual agreement.

Kranjcar joined Rangers in the summer of 2016 from New York Cosmos, and has made 26 appearances while scoring three goals in the process.

The former Croatia, Tottenham and Portsmouth midfielder leaves Ibrox with the best wishes of everyone associated with the club, and also their gratitude for his services.

Niko said: “Myself and Rangers Football Club have come to a mutual agreement to terminate our common contract.

“It’s been an honour to have been part of such a big club and to have played for such great fans, it will always remain an honour for me.

“I wish the club success in its future while I now consider the options I have on the table.”

Dorran’s McCrorie and shock of shocks Rossiter all in the squad for tomorrow’s game against Motherwell

    Team for today v Motherwell

RANGERS: Foderingham, Tavernier, Alves, Martin, John, Docherty, Dorrans, Candeias, Windass, Murphy, Morelos.

Substitutes: Alnwick, Hodson, Halliday, Miller, Cummings, McCrorie, Goss.

Dorrans goes straight back into the team after five months out

So Alves dropsto yhebench and McCrorie starts personally I would have dropped Martin. Also Miller starts why did we bring Cummings in and not play him. Is Murty starting to panic

Very odd choice going with the 38 year old Miller. Think Bruno is being rested for next week. Think we'll get the win here with a bit to spare and Morelos will get a couple.

Bates leaving at the end of the season, signing with Hamburg.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,704 ✭✭✭Broxi_Bear_Eire

GRAEME MURTY has made one change to his side for today’s William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic at Hampden.

Andy Halliday returns to the Gers starting eleven having made a substitute appearance in last weekend’s 4-0 league victory over Dundee at Ibrox. Kenny Miller, who scored against Neil McCann’s men, is named on the bench this afternoon.

With Wes Foderingham between the posts the manager has named a four-man defence which features James Tavernier and Declan John in the right and left back slots respectively with 20-year-old Ross McCrorie and the experienced Russell Martin in the centre-back positions.

Graham Dorrans, Greg Docherty and Halliday will be looking to win the midfield battle with Jamie Murphy and Daniel Candeias given the task of providing service and support to Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos.

Joining Miller on the Rangers bench for kick-off are Jak Alnwick, Josh Windass, Jason Cummings, Lee Hodson, Jason Holt and Bruno Alves.

RANGERS: Foderingham, Tavernier, McCrorie, Martin, John, Dorrans, Halliday, Docherty, Murphy, Morelos, Candeias

SUBS: Alnwick, Miller, Windass, Cummings, Hodson, Holt, Alves.

Woeful first half, just woeful. Sitting far too deep for starters. CBs are getting murdered. Why is Alves on the bench?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,553 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

Id say half the squad is transfer listed after that.

The players having a go at Murty for their own failures on the field are top of the queue

Murty looks like he's in the midst of a dressing room mutiny. Something's gone on there in the background for sure.

Murty won’t be there soon that has been obvious for a while. He has to many favourites and some of his selections have been baffling.

Fairly baffling from King to basically say as much in the buildup to an Old Firm. Or at all when the season is still going on. If you're in that dressing room you're obviously not going to have huge respect for someone you already know is getting the sack.

Everyone including Murty knew he wasn't getting the job next year anyway.

Thats a bit up in the air now. Kenny Miller sacked and Lee Wallace suspended for undermining Murty after the 4-0. If he'll be gone himself after another 5 games it seems odd to sack a player and suspend the club captain??

Not if they have overstepped the mark in their behaviour. There is a common denominator in this both these players were said to be involved with bad mouthing Pedro in Public and undermining him. Frankly I believe Miller thinks he is to important to the club he isn’t

What are they smoking in the board room ?

What were the realistic aims for this season? Finish second ahead of Aberdeen? That's where you are... So he's not too far wrong is he?

We're level on points with Aberdeen with Hibs 3 points behind.
And there's a lot more to it than the league table.

2-1 FT today v Hearts. First half was very flat and the goal at the start of the second half lifted us. Conceded a sloppy goal after we went 2-0 which made for an uncomfortable ending to the game. A decent day at the office overall.

What do you make of the Gerrard link, lads? Big name alright, but surely solid management experience is what's needed at Ibrox. Seems a bit crazy if he's even being considered, he has even less management experience than Murty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

It's interesting in that when he first took his current role, he knew full well that when Klopp goes, he will get the Liverpool job. That's why he took the underage gig originally over MK Dons. He'd have to be a rip-roaring success at Rangers to get the Liverpool job, which is the only job he really wants.

Maybe the champions league run and the way Pool are playing have made him rethink how how long he would have to wait to get his in-house promotion. Things weren't too rosy for Klopp when Gerrard originally took the underage job. He probably thought 2-3 years, grand.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,311 ✭✭✭✭weldoninhio

In fairness to Gerrard, he does have experience of stopping Rodgers winning a title. Today is the anniversary of it too.
