Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Boyata apparently in Glasgow & due to sign tomorrow, that has the look of being a great signing

Seems like a lad that lost his way tbh, capable player though. Surely that ends Denayer coming back. Himself and VVD are rolls royce centre backs, we are in for some land

With Danny Wilson releasing himself from Hearts and expected to join us could that be the end of Ambrose aswell?

And it is being done well in advance of the champions league games in July so giving him some time to get settled in for those games. That is assuming all the reports that he will officially sign tomorrow are indeed true.

    Boyata signs 4 year deal.

Excited about this signing, only seen him a few times but was impressed. Good to see us making a move early too rather than waiting for our CL fate to be decided.

Yes. Waiting until too late in the window is a strategy that hasn't worked. There is the notion that there's a chance of getting a better deal near the end of a window, but it doesn't work out that way and often we end up panic buying. In the last summer window for example Scepovic never wanted to come to Celtic but the deal was rushed through anyway. Also, more importantly, the end of the transfer window is way too late for the crucial qualifiers. We will need another defender to replace Van Dijk and a striker because Guidetti is gone.

Was there a fee involved for Boyata?

Haven't seen any mention of the fee but he had a year to run on his City contract so guess there was one

BBC are saying it was for around £1.5m.

I'm not convinced about Wilson. Wasn't there talk of another youngster coming up from City, his name escapes me, but he is thought of as a much better prospect than Denayer was.

Good luck to Boyata. I must admit I have not seen too much of him. But he seems to fit into the style of center back that Delia likes for his system so hopefully he settles in well. Good to see this done nice and early as well with the early champions league games in mind.

Celtic given the go ahead to install 'safe standing' areas, could be ready for the start of the 2016/17 season
CELTIC Football Club is delighted today (9/6/15) to announce that it has been granted permission to introduce “safe standing” through the installation of a rail seating system at Celtic Park.
Celtic has been at the forefront of attempts in the UK to introduce this measure, having been in dialogue with the relevant authorities for over five years.
It is proposed that the rail seating area will initially accommodate up to 2,600 supporters and after we consult with our supporters, could potentially be introduced for the start of season 2016/17.

Best news coming out of the club in a long time. Fair play to them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,767 ✭✭✭eire4

I was surprised to see the green light for safe standing being given it was denied twice earlier last season. Pity it is not going to be in place until the season after next but at least it is on the way. A good move I think which hopefully will improve the atmosphere at domestic games.

Fair play to Celtic, at last the British clubs are finally catching up to the rest of Europe. Should seriously improve atmosphere. With the guard rails and with modern ticketing practices there shouldn't be any safety issues.

Just a question of the rest of the UK catching up with Celtic fans, as usual.

Some interesting statistics on sectarian 'crimes' at the football
As in the previous two years, derogatory behaviour towards Roman Catholicism (84%) accounted for the largest proportion of religious abuse.

Remember though timmy, "it's an Old Firm problem". Two sides of the same coin.

I wonder how many of the total 'crimes' were actually real crimes. So called anti-sectarian laws in Scotland are a joke.

    FK Ventspils (LVA)
    FK Žalgiris Vilnius (LTU)
Winner first qualifying round tie 3
    Stjarnan (ISL)
    Dundalk FC (IRL)

    Got your wish!

Stjarnan it is. Home leg first.

    From WikiPedia:
Stjarnan F.C. (English: Star F.C.) is an Icelandic sports club specialising in football, located in Garðabær, which currently plays in Úrvalsdeild, the top league in Iceland. They won the promotion from the 1. deild karla in 2008. Stjarnan won the Úrvalsdeild for the first time in 2014. In the 2014-15 Europa League, they reached the play-off rounds after beating Scottish club Motherwell and Polish team Lech Poznań, before Italian giants Inter Milan denied them a place in the group stages.

The club gained worldwide fame when their elaborate goal celebrations, including highly choreographed depictions of landing a fish, diving, a human toilet, a human bicycle, and a Rambo shooting spree, were published widely across the Internet and football television shows.[1]

Beat Motherwell last season, and Lech Poznan, so no mugs. Inter humped them 9-0 over the two legs though to deny them a place in the Europa League.

Always prefer the away leg first in these qualifiers, so Ronny will need to get a great first leg performance out of the boys to secure this one. A 1 or 2 goal win will make for a very nervy 2nd leg.

Wonder have they players in the Iceland national team, theyve had great results recently.

12 pts from 24 this season. We'll turn them over with ease.

Good draw for us but we have a habit of making these games a lot more difficult than they should be.

    When are the games?

    From Celticfc.net:
CELTIC will take on Icelandic side, Stjarnan, in the second qualifying round of the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League.

The Hoops were paired with the Icelandic side at the official draw in Nyon, Switzerland, today (Monday), and face a trip to Iceland for the second consecutive season.

The first leg will take place on July 14/15. The second leg will take place the following week on either July 21 or 22. Celtic were drawn out first, so the first leg is scheduled to be played at home. Further information on the dates of the fixtures to follow.

First-team coach John Kennedy will give his thoughts on the draw at a media conference later today and we’ll have all the reaction on Twitter @celticfc and online at celticfc.net

We were a disaster in qualifying last season and still strolled past KR. They made Pukki look a player!
