Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Great deal. Bit late to the party though. They lost me to Gomo months ago. Didn't ever have a problem with them, but I've not had any trouble with Gomo either.

The offer is for the first 12 months and then it's 25 EUR a month. GoMo offer obviously is advertised as for life.

Yeah it's not a bad offer but €25pm after 12 months. I imagine most that take up the offer will move again in 12 months. Will take a lot go get me to move away from gomo now.

I suppose it's a way for them to limit the offer to 12 months as they know most people won't pay the 25pm.

Weren’t they do a deal where the mobile was €5 a month? Maybe it was because I had the home BB with it.

Personally, I found it brutal. Never has any coverage (at home or work) Got did after one month. I think they piggyback off 3’s network. I could be wrong

  • Registered Users Posts: 128 ✭✭catonafence

Sounds like a great offer, thanks! If I buy a Virgin Sim would I be able to keep my old number?

Do VM still have issues receiving some 2FA, security codes, etc?

    Thanks OP just signed up.

No money was taken from my account and no porting details on the sign up - assume this happens when sim arrives??

What's their online system like regarding keeping track of any potential additional costs, what minutes and data I've used etc?

Have my log in details but just says error in my account section, presumably since I've literally signed up.

Try using the ComReg link for different mobile providers coverage, by entering your area code.
    https://coveragemap.comreg.ie/map

Keep in mind that just because it says your area is good coverage, could also mean a lot of people are using that network and data speeds could be slow.
In my case Comreg says Vodafone is good for my location and GOMO is fair. But i get better data speeds on GOMO than a Vodafone, as there are more people using Vodafone.

I recently ported over to Virgin mobile.

Customer Service is via WhatsApp chat at the moment and it was the most excruciatingly awful service I've had the misfortune to experience - and that includes attempting to sort billing issues with Eir.

Can anyone here recommend a good Sim Router, as this could boost sim data speeds.

Thanks! On Vodafone X plan myself but said I'd save the tenner a month and they're throttling the speeds soon.

Is there a way to test the sim that arrives before porting it over to check coverage, compare vs Vodafone etc?

Didn't see that at all, checked map 4G is good
Wondering in real life is the signal ok?
    And tbe download speed

No harm trying man. I got a 48 sim the other day and the coverage and speeds were roughly the same as Vodafone in my home area.

I'll let you know when it arrives anyway, will test it all out and compare.

All the Telco's are shocking, but Virgin had live agents chatting to you via WhatsApp. Problem was they'd ask a question, you'd reply to it & they'd then take 1h45mins to ask another question. It was painful.

I find their 4G speeds far better than Tesco mobile, though the call quality is oddly muddier. Quirk of my location I suppose.

They can't receive txts from BOI if that's what you're referring to?

Yes, it’s really annoying. They don’t fix the issue if it’s broken for you.

Avoid if you have any reliance on those SMS.

Would this be in relation to authorisation codes from revolut and AIB, Log on codes for various websites etc?

I don't get the point of Virgins offer when goMo is still cheaper.

    Ahh that's true.

I never found the 20 plan on three great. Could never keep credit in the phone. With Virgin at 25 just worked. Unlike their support or billing.

I'm on the Three 20 euro a month plan. Is it worth switching over to this? Obviously it's cheaper, but what about the signal and customer service?

Checked signal on comreg map it's fine
Worried about the customer care service though,I mean if it's even remotely like eir I won't consider joining

Like others have asked, is their issue with all 2FA and text verification services? Big issue if it is.

    Yes.
They can't receive the 2FA texts.
For me I never got AIB, Paypal and a few others.
Rang up to query and was told they were looking into it.
Seemingly it's been going on since they started their Mobile service so won't be fixed soon!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,648 ✭✭✭✭beauf

In what way is €10 greater than €13?

Only for a short period. If you mean keep porting constantly then I guess if you think it's worth the hassle.

I have a real issue with these 6 months offers especially ones that lock you in for 12 or 18 months.

Cheers, won't be considering them as a mobile service provider so, I get several a week, some daily depending on what I'm doing.

€15 per month with 5GB Data
    or
€10 per month for 80GB Data
and €25 per month after 12 months
    Both 30 day rolling contract.
€0.25 per minute to divert calls

The offer is for totally UNLIMITED Data.
For some reason they haven't updated the t&c's on their website but it is totally unlimited.
I got a text to advise of same some weeks ago and it was mentioned in one of the online papers yesterday.
Also confirmed by an online rep yesterday when I rang to ask if they had solved receiving the SMS texts problem, they hadn't.

So 12 months at €10 for unlimited data, (presume the limits still apply for calls & texts) so if you can do without the 2FA verifications, it's a bargain all right.
3 are also doing totally unlimited Data.
Only a matter of time before everybody does it.

    Seems like a good deal.
Hopefully all these discount offerings of late on 4g broadband make Virgin move on their prices for fixed line bb aswell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,240 ✭✭✭✭Hurrache

Not a good deal if they don't provide a full service, if you think it's a minor issue you're just letting yourself in for angst down the road.

It's a 30 day contract @€;10 for a max of 12 months (I'm sure they'll have another another offer then).
So you can leave anytime giving them 30 days notice.

I just noticed in the T&C
4.4 You may not use the Services
    (1) to send a message or communication which is offensive, spam, junk mail, abusive, indecent, obscene, a nuisance or hoax;
    or
    (2) to cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety; or
    (3) fraudulently; or
    (4) in connection with a criminal offence; or
    (5) in connection with direct dialling, machine-to-machine or malware; or
    (6) for tethering or use of the handset as, or the SIM in conjunction with, a modem (or Wi-Fi Hotspot); or
    (7) in breach of our Acceptable Usage Policy

Is this a fairly standard clause?
Was thinking of throwing the sim into an old phone and using it as a hotspot

They change their offers every few months.
    €5 a month for 6 months - €25 after, Free for 4 months - €25 after and €15 a month for 6 months - €25 after are some of their offers.
Normally if you have Broadband with them you can get 4 Sims at the offer or 2 if you don't.
The Free for 4 months is the best of the lot, got great use out of 4 Sims which are just finished :(.
If you move after the offer finishes to a cheaper alternative, you're quids (or whatever the Euro equivalent is) in.
The only way to get the prices down is for people to keep moving.

I've been hotspoting off Virgin Sims for 4 months with no problems.
At the time there was an 80GB limit so when it got to 75GB, I just switched over to another sim.

A previous offer was 6 months. Lots of places are doing these offers where the offer prices is shorter than the contract length. Not this one obviously.

This one is max of 12 months one off and only for new customers. 30 day contact. AFAIK.

Not interested even if it was a fiver, losing reception and phone calls cutting out no thanks as i was at a wedding reception and no service for a day and vodafone working all around me.
Having a better working service is better even if its dearer.

Exactly, now you're getting it. This is not more expensive than GoMo nor is there a contract.

I signed up to this on Thursday and received my sim Friday. The porting process is done over what's app now. But once you have your previous account number it is a smooth process. My port happened as I was on the what's app chat with Virgin.
