Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Off road training, internationally

Myself and a mate are considering looking into taking a trip later in the year. We're trying to take in some motorcycling abroad (for me, the more exotic the location, the better) but we're both also feeling the call toward trail type riding and getting some off road riding training. Any suggestions for a location or recommendations for a school abroad?

BMW adventure school in Wales or the Honda one in Devon are the two most obvious ones to me.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Take a look at https://transeurotrail.org for some trails around Europe.
Also KTM have an adventure school in UK https://ktm.adventurerallybike.co.uk

Just back from Spain with Suntrails enduro Murcia.
Looked at Uk but it’s hard to beat 95% chance of sun. We had a great week customed to our needs. (2 guys also)

Sounds great. Is there an expectation of actual off road experience/ability? I potter along and "do ok" but would suck in comparison with actual ability. How would I fare?

Love to hear how you get along OP. 44 Teeth on YouTube did a review of the new middleweight tenere and used some place in Wales iirc, looked good.

Yamaha used to offer off-road training in Wales too.
Patsy Quick (Dakar racer) somewhere in Southern England.

i2i used be in Kent, now near York I think but recently offering sessions in Ireland. I 've heard lots of recommendations for them. Maybe not as much dirt as you seek.

I did the BMW Level 1 course years ago - on an F650 Dakar single. Excellent training but quite pricey now. These days they seem to offer F800 and 12xxGS. Way too big to my mind but lots of of positive reports.

I had only done a taster and my buddy had never been offroad. They worked the routes around what we wanted to do. it was as easy as we wanted but was challenging when we wanted also. Highly recommend. I had done a good bit of research and this crowd suited us. No association.

If you want exotic try an Internet search for Jimmy Lewis offroad. Fly in to Las Vegas, Jimmy's school is a little over an hour away. He is riding since he was 8 and has competed in both Paris-Dakar and Baja 1000, so he knows his stuff. His website gives a more detailed bio for both him and his lady wife, who also races and helps at the course. Biggest drawback is having to bring your own gear. Jimmy has a fleet of about 20 bikes for rent, from a lowered CRF230 to KTM 500s. He demo's on both a Husky 501 and KTM1290, so covers both styles of riding. He covers basic stuff like balance and braking through more advanced like deep sand dunes and steep gravel hills. Some guys at the course had been off roading for decades, some were newbies. All were challenged without being overwhelmed.
While you are in the area visit Death Valley, the road from Shoshone to Furnace Creek is the best way in. You will probably want to do it twice, once for giggles and again to admire the views. Plenty other good roads and things to see in that area, depending on how much time you have.

Thanks for all the responses. I think a 2-4 day type thing is definitely on the cards for me and the mate.

    Aaaaannnnd one pandemic later...

Hoping to start making plans for maybe doing something like this at the end of this year... subject to... you know.

Has anyone experience going to Greece for this kind of experience? I was taken with the idea of Romania. My buddy I mention above actually lived there for 5 years but didn't ride bikes there.
