Have you ever seen a more useless radar system?

Met Eireann could save a lot of money by just scraping the whole lot and putting any money saved in putting in place a bigger and better observational network around the country.

Rain, rain and more rain in Galway.
    A few letterbox rattlers too.

Seemed to have escaped the worst of it here. nothing more than wind driven dribbles all day.

Winds have certainly picked up a bit from earlier, some pretty hefty gusts now. Kind of surprised the power is still on!

Wondering what conditions prevent eg the Air Ambulance rescuing? e g trying to land out here in a medical emergency tonight.

Breezy and damn wet here in southern Laois. AWS reports over 10mm and a top gust of 36mph (or 57km/ph in funny money). A brief mild sector from around 5.30pm until 7pm where temperatures reached 9.2c. Currently 7.8c.

Just call it in Grace if there's an issue.

Ah no kind sir; no issue thankfully. But I do wonder sometimes. Would hate to see anything happen to those wonderful folk.

Definitely starting to calm down in Galway now. The odd gusts. Rain has stopped for the most part too.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Had quietened down for a spell there, but a few significant, sustained gusts there now in Dublin. Very noisy. Window panes rattling (they are in bits though in fairness).

Lightning flash West of Galway City

    10pm
Mace head gusting 66 knots (122 km/h). strong enough.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,700 ✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

122 km/h recorded at Mace head. My guess is that was around 9:20pm. I was outside around that time and got a very gusty few minutes and then it seemed to die off.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Very strong in west Kerry at present with the occasional violent gust. Rain seems to have eased though.

Recent lightning strike between the Aran Islands and the south Connemara coast into the bargain. Any Galweigans spot that?

Edit: hail it was. Scattering of it on ground. Very short squal.

Unusual not to see a defined squall line on the rainfall radar returns which would tie in with the recent but brief surge in wind speeds here in south Laois along with a sudden temperature drop - down over 1c in just ten or so minutes.
