I wanted to share a success story with everyone, my cousin has recently completed his Advanced Barber Diploma in Dublin and now is managing a high end gents grooming lounge in NYC and is earning a whopping 6k.

Unsurprisingly, he put in a huge amount of work over the 12 weeks and has clearly distinguished himself as a skilled barber. He specialises in fades.

It was a long journey as he spent a long time on the dole and struggled to work. Its just a shame hes moved to NYC, now i will have to pay for my haircuts

Does anyone have any similar successful stories they would like to share?

    6k a year? If he’d stayed on the dole he’d get 10.

    6k a month I assume.

I have a feeling 6k wont go to far in NYC.
Also I would question any business that would hire somebody as a manager with only a 12 week course as his experience - from the OP you don't mention any real world work experience so i have to assume he has none.
fair play to him all the same

What does an advanced barber course involve?

In late medieval times... surgery skills!

My cousin also lives in New York. He is a successful serial killer who specialises in barbers.

    Such a small world!

It's on tips he'll sink or swim.

Know a woman who was hairdressing in Boston who was making serious money from tips.

Not sure if she even got a wage.

Fair play to him. Tell him to get an agent quick smart in order to properly cash in on the movie rights to this compelling story.

I worked as a receptionist in a hairdressers not in a cheap area either. And they usually make more than barbers.

Its not the area its the clientele.

If he is cutting hair its celebrity hair.

People who don't mind paying 800 for a hair cut. They exist alright.

    Fair play to him.

Actually the place I worked at distinguished itself a lot by how customers were treated as well as the actual work.

'Treat them like children, mother them'

    Create a nice environment.

A 6k figure is more than enough to live in NYC I would imagine

How's your partner, the one with the 2 year old that was diagnosed with AdHD, still getting abuse on the buses?

Not sure what his take home tax pay is, but for sure, he is doing well for himself.

    So he made the cut?

He made the step up. I suppose you might even call it a graduation

There's no such thing as a 6k figure. Care to put it in plain English?

Can you partner, the beautician not have a go at cutting your hair at home - once the landlord doesn't find out?

The OP is bazaar in copious ways.

Average rent in Manhattan is just under $4k monthly. Hopefully the cousin is living in one of the other boroughs where it's more affordable.

I'm glad they're doing well, OP. Unfortunately the cost of living is so high in NYC that what seems like a fortune can disappear very quickly.
