Dramatic change in the wind here in South Laois, SSE now after a W or WSW all day. Temperature rise up to a balmy -4.4c.

2.3mm in Belmullet in last hour, so despite what radar returns suggest there is precipitation out there.

Latest radar is not showing the promise of some of the models, including the ECM. It's more like the 15Z ICON Flash and the Swiss 4x4, both of which show the precip petering out as it heads south so that many areas will not receive anything at all. A mere sprinking is the best we can hope for.

Plenty cold enough over the midlands and east, just not the dynamics in place for decent amounts here.

    Off to bed.

Just out of interest, here are the 23Z TAFs just issued. Casesment and Dublin airport still showing light snow from around 5 am, preceded by sleet.

Cork has reduced to chance of snow from 6 - 10 am.

Rain here in Castlebar. Doesn't feel cold enough yet for any frost tonight.

Radar looks very, very weak, bed sounds like a good idea.

Precipitation looks to have arrived for you and it certainly does look very marginal. What's falling from sky at your location?

You have to remember that the precip band is currently out of accurate range for the Dublin and Shannon radar, and not exactly close to the Belfast radar either. Also the imagery interpolation between the three radar can be iffy at times, especially in the NW of the country. I wouldn't throw in the towel looking at poor radar returns just yet.

Personally I'm not expecting anything more than a slight dusting in Dublin and I wouldn't be surprised if there was nothing. Anything more than that I'd be happy with, a couple of cms is possible if we get lucky here.

Hold the phone, did radar returns just increase in intensity on the last update...

Raining here but there is a very sharp snowline. From rain to snow at 500 feet.

Snowing and lying at 700 feet. I guess that’s the end for me.

Onwards to the next proper event.

Expecting this to turn over to mostly snow as it advances into colder air mass, almost no significant warm advection and the diurnal cycle is favourable too. No big snowstorm but 1-3 cm coatings can be expected in some parts of the midlands by morning, then it continues across the inland southeast tomorrow morning, would not expect much accumulation there but a few places could see that same 1-3 cm. Dublin probably sees a sleety mix by morning, and is not in the best location according to most guidance.

Sleet has now turned to rain. I'm off to watch an episode of Sliders. Pity I could not slide into a world where Ireland got snowfall to rival that of Japan!

No snow in Sligo town but 0.7c and cold rain

Could be very icy in morning

Loughrea is always in with a shout, based on experience of previous "events".
