Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Leipzig have signed Szoboszlai from Salzburg.

A lot of the English journos were saying Arsenal were favorites for him.

Leipzig are favourites for almost every decent player Salzburg produce. They are basically their development side now.

Manuel Baum sacked by Schalke after 2 1/2 months and 10 league games. Huub Stevens in (again) apparently.

Poor Huub is never going to be able to enjoy retirement because of Schalke.

Seems to only be for the final 2 games before the 'break', but if anyone can breathe some life into them it's him.

If they decide all hope is lost and start preparing for the 2.Liga (if they even get a license..) then they should look to bring in Friedhelm Funkel. He's the most experienced 2.Liga coach available currently.

Played off the pitch by Bielefeld for most of today's game. Things are looking desperate. Two more losses this week makes it 29 games without a win. They haven't won since January 17th.

The all time record is 31 games set by Tasmania Berlin in the 60s. Their story is quite something and worth a read.

Their current chairman said recently that he hopes Schalke win soon, as Tasmania's Bundesliga record is the reason everyone in Germany knows his club and they want to keep it!

Tasmania fans have shown up outside the Olympiastadion this evening to cheer on Schalke. They don't want their record broken :D

It was inevitable. They've been kicking this debt-filled can down the road for a decade.

COVID just made it happen sooner than expected.

Doesn't look like much has changed even now. Signing Kolasinac on 100 grand per week is ridiculous behaviour when they are crying out for a creative midfielder and goalscorer.

Some game between Gladbach and Bayern at the minute.

Gladbach were 2 down early but now lead 3-2 just after half time. Great come back so far.

    Expect more goals

No more goals, but a needed win for Borussia.

Another young American prospect scoring all 3, Matthew Hoppe. Lot of talent coming through from the USA and Canada via Germany in the past few years

Classic Dortmund. Dominate away against Leipzig last week to get a big 3 points and then draw at home to the bottom team Mainz the following week.

    So frustrating

It was nice to see Kostic and Jovic linking up again. They were great entertainment alongside Haller and Rebic not too long ago.

Dortmund really to get a proper manager in place soon, 1 point from the last 9

They need to sell a few so called important players. Attitude all wrong in the team....players stealing a living and the club is allowing it to happen.

    Sancho being a prime example.

    He's been awful this season

Andre Silva is quietly having a great season. Up to 14 goals now, level with Haaland. Pleased to see him kicking on. I thought he could be top tier level a few years ago but it didn't quite pan out that way.

Jovic with 3 in 3 games as well, top 4 is wide open this year

Sancho, Reus, Meunier, Brandt are the worst cases, Reynas gone cold, prior to injury Hazard didnt do much....the list goes on.

Rafa Benitez is free...could he be a trainer they may look at???

Their keeper Burkri is mediocre as well, how they've stuck with him as their first choice for so long I don't know. Rafa would be a great shout to sort them out

They dont have the money to sort it out, normally in good nick as they can roll it out of the ground to get sun. I drove past the ground yesterday morning and the grass was out in the frost, this morning there was approx. 15cm snow...I suspect tactics at play.

Hertha sack Labbadia and the director of football. Pal Dardai back in charge of the first team. They should have done this at least a couple of weeks ago.

Preetz should have been gone years ago. Funny is that some of what Klinsmann complained about and wanted changed when he left is now being changed....

Looks like Gisdol might be out the door in Köln shortly too. If they are smart they would do what Hertha have done with Preetz and sack Horst Heldt along with him.

I don't know how Gisdol does it but he keeps convincing sport directors to give him unnecessary contract extensions. He did it at HSV and he finessed a new contract out of Heldt over the summer too. Now, instead of having to pay him 6 months compensation Köln will have to pay him 2.5 years worth.

Another poor loss for Dortmund, Leverkusen, Wolfsburg and Leipzig all winning as well means they'll be under pressure to make top 4 this year.
Much needed win for Mainz as well

    Another poor loss for Dortmund

Or was it another great win for Freiburg? :D

Streich doing magical things there year after year. There was an inevitability about the result today given the direction both teams have been going in over the past few weeks.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,194 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

Even though they'd hit a wall with Farvre, it was madness sacking him with no plan for a replacement. I mean, if you sack him because you think the CL place is in doubt, you get in someone experienced who you think can improve the team, not a 38 year old who's never been a head coach before.

I find it hard to believe they'd be doing quite as badly if he was still there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,249 ✭✭✭Irishmale0399

Cookie, the problem is that Zorc and co employed Edin Terzić and forced him upon Favre so that they would have a replacement ready if they had to sack Favre. Looks very much like they knew Rose had a €5 million get out clause in his contract this summer and hoped things would good good. Rose has already said BMG know what his plan is, however he hasnt said he wants to stay with them. I am lead to believe a certain Mr Klopp (his mentor) is guiding him towards Dortmund.

Gladbach confirm Marco Rose will leave in the summer and take over as Dortmund manager.

Good appointment if he was joining now. Dortmund need to do something soon to make the CL next year

Good draw for Bayern, coming from 3-1 down at one point. Was always going to be a bit of a World Club hangover.

    *Chuckles nervously*

Starting next Monday night we play the derby away to Pauli, at home to Kiel and away to Bochum in the space of 11 days.

According to Sky tonight, Schalke's senior players are demanding that Gross be removed as coach immediately. Their reasons include a poor standard of training, tactics and the fact that after 2 months he still does not know the names of some of his players.

Schneider has refused to budge so far but another loss tomorrow could spell the end for him.

With the financial problems Schalke have, could they be in free fall and get relegated from Bundesliga 2 (next season) as well? Are they in that bad of a position?

The Schalke fans I know think they will be capable of putting a squad together to challenge for a top 2 spot next season, but if it fails they could be stuck in the 2.liga (or worse due to licensing problems) for quite a while. They haven't got the wiggle room financially to hang around in the 2.liga for several years like we have.

Reus makes some difference when fit. Too bad he never seems to get a good run before being injured. Even when not sticking out, pulling the strings. One of the classiest players to watch. On form very few better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,368 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

Everyone at Schalke has been sacked.

    https://twitter.com/RaeComm/status/1365954340922523648

Looks like they'll promote from within to get to the end of the season. Peter Knäbel will move from his role as youth technical director and replace Schneider. Mike Büskens will replace Gross.
