the dji ones seems nice but unless your some video editor by profession id say it gets boring quite fast plus 15 min or so flying time and restrictions on locations and other crap that can go wrong, its fun but dunno maybe playing with someones for 10 minutes would be more then enough.

but if you speak of the military ones that can stay 12h or so in single spot and launch hellfire missiles all done fom the couch at home would beat any flight sim :D imagine how much less scum would be no need to chase joyriders or just wait until theres enough clowns in one spot and make a crater would eliminate a lot of scum, and easy to blame on meteor or say Chinese.

Only ever seen one, at the funeral on Omey of the last resident. Creepy spying things. Invading privacy

I bought one for Christmas, just in the €80 range.

The main point was to play with aerial photography a little.
Find a nice beach or scenic spot, fly the drone up in the air and turn it around 360 degrees for some nice panorama shots.

The reality, it's tricky to fly and I lost control of it the 2 times I've tried flying it. You're not allowed fly it in public parks.

As for the invading privacy criticism, you could say the same about dashcams and smart phone cameras. Anyone in a public place should have no expectation of privacy. But whether the footage can/should be publicly shared afterwards is where data protection/privacy comes into it.

I'd be more worried about the professional level drones, eg. where some paparazzi "journalist" used one to film into some celebrities back garden.

I wouldn't be surprised in the future if police departments where able to deploy drones to reach crime scenes first, or even patrol areas.

My dog ate my neighbours drone when it landed in my garden last year.
My neighbour is now flying a new drone again over the house, my younger son is debating taking a shot at it with an air soft rifle , hes probably wasting his time but all the same.

If my neighbor was flying a drone over my house it wouldn’t only be the drone I’d be taking aim at with that rifle. It’s amazing how little cop on and respect people have for those around them. They need to find a beach, park or big field..

“Drones may not fly within 30 meters (98.4 feet) of people, crowds, vehicles, or buildings.”

That’s according to the Irish Aviation Authority.

Too bad to be true imo

Cheap drones = less privacy, more footage that can be used against citizens

which will inevitably lead to whatever laws there are around privacy being eased; not good in my book.
