Any frozen rivers/lakes yet?

Just wondering with the extreme cold weather have any of our major rivers and lakes starting freezing over? The resevoir here in Roundwood completely froze over last night and the next few nights will just make this thicker. AFAIK, we need some really really cold nights to get the process started on the bigger…

That Arklow harbour is cool! Not just cold .
This was the canal at Castleknock Station on Christmas Eve. It's still slightly frozen even yet.

Heres some pics of Mullagh lake (not far from kells) frozen over on christmass day

Some where walking across it to the island

Where the ice was broken trough for the christmas charity swim

i didnt have a measureing tape with me

Strange how these thaw lines formed, can any one explain? cracks from the preasure?

And just because it looks nice, frozen lake with sunset

Thats amazingly thick ice. Seems like its greater than the recommended 5inches to walk on too.

its a shame i was too late and missed them breaking trough the ice, ive a video of the previous year when they needed a sledg hammer, the ice was nowhere near as thick.

Also one of the village elders was telling me that back in the day before health and safety, it was nothing unusual to walk horses across the lake to collect fire wood, and this was the worse for snow he's seen in a very long time :eek:
