    More info here: http://www.mhfi.org/ConnectingWorkshops.pdf
Free Workshops on 'Connecting with Young Men'

    Dear Colleague,

One of the big questions of the age is:

‘Are young men not interested in looking after their own health, or are we simply not offering them the right things in the right way? ...’

If you work in the Republic of Ireland, are curious about the answer to this question, and would like practical ideas to help your organisation to engage more effectively with young men, then you might be interested in a free one day workshop titled 'Connecting with Young Men'.

This workshop has been developed by the Men’s Health Forum in Ireland (MHFI) - funded by the HSE’s National Office for Suicide Prevention - and is a new Unit within the highly regarded ‘Engage’ National Men’s Health Training Programme. MHFI is, currently, looking for groups and individuals who would like to host this free workshop for their staff / volunteers / activists or to participate in one of the ‘Open Workshops’.

For more information, see the details attached.

    Best wishes,

    Colin

Much of this edition is dedicated to International Men’s Health Week (MHW), which will take place from Monday 13th - Sunday 19th June 2016. The theme for the island of Ireland this year is: ‘Men United - for Health and Wellbeing’. MHW 2016 begins just after the start of the Euro 2016 competition in June. As football fever is spreading across all parts of Ireland, we are delighted that Martin O'Neill (Team Manager, Republic of Ireland) and Michael O'Neill (Team Manager, Northern Ireland) have agreed to act as our 'poster boys' for MHW 2016.

This newsletter gives details of how you can get involved in Men’s Health Week. Can I especially draw your attention to the articles on ‘The Toolkit for Action’, the posters / postcards for MHW 2016, and the ‘Challenges and Choices’ Man Manual? All of these materials are available free-of-charge. Please visit www.mhfi.org/mhw/mhw-2016.html for details of how to get them.

Much of this edition is dedicated to updating you on International Men’s Health Week (MHW) - which is taking place this week. We are very grateful to Health Ministers Simon Harris and Michelle O’Neil who launched the countdown to MHW last week. Thanks, too, to everyone who has been actively promoting the week via social media and the new MHW YouTube video channel. It is much appreciated. The word is, certainly, getting out there. Amazingly, all 47,000 copies of the ‘Challenges and Choices’ Man Manual, 12,000 MHW postcards, and 7,000 MHW posters have now been given out - we have no more in stock!

    Dear Colleague,

I am pleased to attach a Portable Document Format (PDF) version of the September 2016 edition of ‘E-Male Matters’ - the newsletter of the Men’s Health Forum in Ireland (MHFI). I hope that you will find something of interest to you in it. You can also access an online copy of this newsletter at: www.mhfi.org/newsletters/about-e-male-matters.html

May I please draw your attention to the article on the first page, which invites you to apply for a free place at a Men’s Health Symposium which will be held in Dr Steeven’s Hospital, Dublin, on Wednesday 30th November 2016. The title of this event is ‘A New Chapter: Healthy Ireland - Men’, and it will be used to launch the new Action Plan which will succeed Ireland’s National Men’s Health Policy. It will also offer delegates an opportunity to: hear about the background to and content of the ‘Healthy Ireland - Men’ Action Plan; participate in short workshops which highlight examples of effective practice throughout Ireland; discover local research into men’s health which is currently taking place; listen to an internationally recognised speaker on men’s health issues.

The organisers are also calling upon researchers in Ireland to submit abstracts for a short presentation on any new research into men’s health and wellbeing that they are currently undertaking. The closing date for abstract submissions is 5.00pm on Friday 25th October 2016.

    Best wishes,

    Colin
