Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Then it'll concentrate on 2 other games I've no interest in: Animal Crossing and Pokemon

So now we know the Direct is about Smash, some people will watch the Direct about Smash and then complain the Direct is about Smash :P.

Looking forward to information on the new modes and interesting to see who they have left last to reveal. With the information coming out of the earnings about targeting DLC on current games, I'm sure something will be mentioned about that too. If Isaac, as rumoured, is added as a fighter I hope it could mean a revival of the Golden Sun franchise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,155 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

I doubt they'll mention DLC just yet. They'll want to get the game out first. I think single player content will come later, in the form of paid DLC, e.g. a Subspace Emissary mission or other story like modes. There'll probably be some token efforts for single player content contained within the game like the usual Break the Targets and Homerun Contest, maybe there's more to that "Spirits" mode than meets the eye. Besides, this game is coming on a 16GB cartridge and there's only so much it can contain. I don't think the DLC will feature many if any new characters or stages. That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I can see it's appeal but I never got into it, aside from some time with the GameCube version, a long time ago.

It just doesn't appeal to me. Same as games like Stardew Valley.

Petey Piranha as a fighter? That's nonsense to me.

I don't even think it's Petey Piranha, it's just the "vanilla" Piranha Plant.

    Which is actually even worse...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,155 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Ya, you're right. It's just "Piranha Plant". I'm sure people had their fingers crossed that their character might get announced today and instead they get some generic polka-dot piranha plant in a pot. And they've made him a limited time offer. No great loss, imo.

Having a good laugh watching the reactions to that direct on ResetEra and NintendoSwitch Reddit.

    What were people really expecting?

I know Smash isn't an ordinary fighting game but realistically what can you expect on each new iteration of a fighting game?

A few new fighters and a basic arcade mode?

Great. Haven’t checked the direct but I take it from the above responses that that mini N64 announcement rumour I heard this morning didn’t happen. :(

Not yet. They are doing their "Treehouse" thing now.

Game Awards is on December 6th. I would be surprised if Nintendo makes any more big announcements before then.

Nintendo are milking Smash Bros and Pokemon on Treehouse Live. I've yet to see Yoshi’s Crafted World, it's the only thing I'm interested in seeing. I hope it's not just some tacked on trailer right at the end.

    Looks like you missed it.

They were playing Yoshi about an hour ago. Think they were going for about 30 mins or so.

The Smash adventure mode looks really interesting. I wonder how the bosses will be held fight wise. It's also a throwback that first initial reveal trailer with Inkling and the ominous staring shadow fighters, that now seem part of a story.

Spirits looks to be a really neat way of making an already full game even fuller tactics wise. The game is absolutely choc ful of everything, more than any game Nintendo has ever done. I'm no Pokemon fan, but Incineroar looks an interesting character move wise, quite different from other fighters.

Looking forward to it's release now.

Piranha Plant is the weird, nonsense, out of nowhere fighter I hoped to see. I enjoyed the reveal quite a bit I must say.

Am I the only one who had absolutely no idea what the hell is going on in smash bros, it just looks like a million things happening on a screen at once with little control bar button bashing??
My son is mad about it, it's the one game where he'll likely have a chance of whoopin me, oh no!! :pac: :D

Haven't watched the direct, just had a quick glance at the headlines. Will there be a few more fighters announced at launch do you reckon, or is that the roster finalised? Would be a shame if Golden Sun went completely unrepresented in the franchise.

I didn't watch most of it, I thought Isaac was going to be a fighter in the game, going from an old rumour, but someone elsewhere said he was shown today as an Assist Trophy. So that's him crossed off the list.

I think thats it for release, with Pirahna Plant coming around Feb 2019. Then the 5 DLC characters over the next 15 months (it says all chars will be released by Feb 2020 at the bottom when discussing them)

I bought smash on the Wii U and hadn't a clue what was going on but I got some instructions from lads on here and once you understand the game you realise what's going on. I actually love it now its worth investing a bit of time I'm it to get to know it.
My only problem is I'm only really good with one character, mario. I'm like that guy that always picked ryu in street fighter(which I also did:))

It reflects so badly on the online capabilities of the Switch console when they plead with you to get a LAN adapter for the best online experience.
Its like they take the opposite approach to Rockstar by just telling you everything about it even if you never asked, hey press ZL to bring up the help menu. Eh, thanks I guess

Everything will run better connected via Lan. My PS4, my PC and Xbox. If you want the best experience you should be hooked up via cable otherwise you may get drops or other devices in your house may cause interference.

It's a WiFi thing, not a Switch thing, but here's a gold star for effort:

Nah my WiFi worked well on everything I use the last 4 or 5 years but suspiciously not the Switch.
They definetly cut a corner with its implementation on the device and them mentioning a LAN adapter during the direct I saw it as basically covering their arses for any potential issues. Yeah it improves performance but the performance of the device on anyone's Wi-Fi is noticeably behind other systems on the market the last 12 years.
Kinda astonished people try defend Nintendo to the point where they believe the Switch's Wi-Fi capabilities are good.
Thanks for the gold star tho

Really? I find it at least as good as my PS4. Not a patch on the Xbox One X though.

Have you the Switch behind a TV or anything?

I thought it would be a bit odd to start explaining the options menu and all but it was actually unique stuff that people might not realise they wanted (separate brightness/volume sliders for docked/handheld modes) or just the amount of info in the tips section. It only filled up about 3 or 4 minutes of the Direct so not terrible or padding it out too much.

Found it odd they said "if you don't like the content of the Fighters Pass, don't buy it"....how many game companies do that and not have massive "BUY OR SEASON PASS FOR THE TRUE EXPERIENCE!!!" at the end of every trailer?

Thought the "World of Light" part could have been slapped in before the Spirits part, would have made a better transition into explaining the Spirit system.

You'd need more than a pinch of salt to believe this, but I saw it posted over on IGN. It claims insider knowledge of the next Nintendo Direct and it's on January 10th (announced on January 9th).

It's a long post - you can click here to read it. The short version is:

    - Original F Zero being remade for 3DS. It will be the last major release.
    - Mario Maker 2.0 (with new parts, a 3D mode, and a puzzle mode where you need to use parts to complete levels).
    - Persona Q2 coming.
    - New updates to Splatoon 2
    - Street Fighter V in April
    - Mario Tennis Aces adds Dixie Kong, Professor E. Gadd, and Cappy.
    - More Genesis Classic games coming throughout the year. Dreamcast Classics start in May.
    - Wonderful 101 coming in Autumn
    - January NES NSO games are Super Mario Bros. 2, Kirby’s Adventure, and Castlevania
    - The Let's Go developers have started work on the next generations of Pokemon
    - Overwatch is coming to Switch (with exclusive Nintendo-themed outfits)
    - Super Mario Party getting two new boards: Haunted Mansion and Jungle Adventure
    - Mortal Kombat X is coming to Switch, a month before Mortal Kombat XI
    - Borderlands: The Human Collection coming in April.
    - Fortnite: Save The World might be coming to switch? Announcement on the day of the Direct.
    - Sims 4 coming during the Summer
    - Yoshi’s Crafted World coming in April (with new Amiibo)
    - Daemon X Machina coming in July
    - A new Shantae, Shovel Knight: King of Cards, and Deltarune (The first console release) are previewed
    - Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection is announced for Summer.
    - Fallout 3 announced, no date yet
    - The Persona 5 R announcement (for PS4) will be shown in English, with the promise of more info soon.
    - GTA V coming during the Summer
    - Metroid Prime 4 gets short cinematic
    - Pikmin 4 trailer shown at the end
    - Treehouse Live will announce a Pikmin Collection with 1-3

I know we've been burned by rumour lists like this before, but if it's true, it's going to be a crazy year for the Switch.

Well even based off that, them announcing it on the 9th to air the 10th is a bit odd, usually there's almost 4 to 5 days lead up for the Direct, especially for what looks like a big Direct (mini-Directs might squeak out like this)

There has been rumours of a retail listing for Yoshi in March, so what that says for the April listed here.....dunno.

Also find it odd that there's no mention of NSMBUDx or Travis Strikes Again, would have thought some vids or extra little details for games coming out a few days later like a lot of other Directs have done.

At this point its impossible to believe any of these "no its totes legit guyz, my dad works for Nintendo!!" style wishlists and I just go in with unaltered, high expectations.

New Pokemon and Prime games stand out for me, few other ports if at decent prices too.

I've heard lots of rumours from multiple places of a January 10th direct, so its either "where there is smoke there is fire" or they are all running with each others misinformation.

In saying that every rumour seems to have a list of completely different stuff so I'm kinda leaning towards the later on this one

Whatever the date, it's much to my relief that I won't have to sit through more SSBU reveal videos.

Still 4 DLC characters and the Mii costumes so loads to see yet. :) Of course, we'll now be stuck with Pokemon and Animal Crossing videos.

They won't announce it all in one go. The most they'll show is Joker/Piranha Plant and maybe tease the next one. Can't see that filling up more than a few minutes, tops.

They'll definitely be stretching out the reveals until at least e3.

Then after that they'll probably reveal the "expansion"!!

So i'd safely say we are looking at Smash Bros related content in the next 2 years of directs! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Work on Joker only started recently according to Sakurai's blog, so I wouldn't expect anything regarding that, or at the very least only a very brief look. Perhaps the next one could be named to encourage the sign up of the whole pack etc.

    Direct Script Leak 1-17-19

    https://pastebin.com/hVDEAXA2

This is a rumour, it could easily be BS.
    [Opening Direct Animation]

[Gameplay of Mario Super Sluggers: Fever Pitch. No voice over.]

[Title Screen of Mario Super Sluggers: Fever Pitch. Release date of June 2019.]

    [Shinya Takahashi appears]

Takahashi: Hello, my name is Shinya Takahashi, and as always, we’ll be taking this Nintendo Direct journey together. Just now, you got a first look at a new game. I’m pleased to confirm that the crazy sports action of Mario Super Sluggers is in production for the Nintendo Switch. There’s plenty more to see and talk about with the game, but that will have to wait for now. Next, let’s go over some quick headlines for the Nintendo 3DS. Please, take a look.

(Hey, it’s me. I cut out the 3DS stuff because no new game announcements are made and it’s kind of boring. If you want to see this part, let me know. Back to the script.)

Takahashi: Welcome back. That’s all we have for 3DS, so let’s move on to the Nintendo Switch. Please take a look.

    [Snap, Switch noise.]

    [Headline: Smashing New Fighters!]

Narrator: You may recall that two previous characters were announced as DLC fighters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Piranha Plant, from the Super Mario series, and Joker from the Persona series. We hope both will bring lots of incredible fun into your epic battles, and we’d like to share some extra information. Piranha Plant is scheduled for February 3rd. Physical owners of the game will have until January 31st to register their Smash copies in order to receive Piranha Plant for free. If you’ve bought digital, you’re already set for Piranha Plant! More DLC is planned for the future, and we’ll be letting you know whenever we have news to share. Otherwise, Piranha Plant will be available for purchase on February 3rd.

    [Headline: New Boards! New Fun!]

Narrator: Super Mario Party is getting some new content. Two new boards will be added to the game on January 23. Haunted Mansion will feature a changing board that forces players to think several turns ahead. The other board, Jungle Adventure, will have many branching paths. Pick a path to victory! New content will continue to come to make sure that the Mario Party doesn’t end until you’ve said so.

    [Headline: New Games, Approaching Fast!]

Narrator: When it comes to speed, there is only one Hedgehog to talk to. And it’s time for that Hedgehog to bring some of his previous adventures back to the Nintendo Switch. Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic and the Black Knight, and Sonic Colors: these three games from the Nintendo Wii family of systems are back and better than ever. Detached Joy-Cons allow for faithful recreations of the classic motion controls while Joy-cons attached to the console allow for playing the games with no motion controls. Choose to play Sonic how you want to! In addition, the multiplayer modes are back and with online functionality! Be on the lookout for Sonic the Hedgehog: Wii-visited when it races onto the Nintendo Switch exclusively on May 21, 2019. That reminds me: make sure to pick up Team Sonic Racing that day as well! When playing Team Sonic Racing on a Switch with Sonic the Hedgehog: Wii-visited save data, alternate costumes for characters based on their appearances in those games will be unlocked. Both will make fast-paced must-haves on May 21, 2019.

    [Headlines: Reaching a Fever Pitch!]

Narrator: Mario Super Sluggers: Fever Pitch is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Enter the ballpark to enjoy the great pastime of baseball once again. With fan favorites and newcomers alike, there’s plenty of ballplayers this time around! We’ve upgraded plenty of characters to “captain” status, so you’ll have more freedom with your team. Every character will have an exclusive batting and pitching ability that can be activated by reaching a “Fever Pitch”. This meter in the bottom left will fill as you play the game, and will grow more when you perform great plays. When the time is right, unleash your Fever Pitch and rush to victory! Want to see some of the new players? As you can see, Rosalina, the Koopalings, Professor E. Gadd, Pauline, and even Captain Toad are among the people getting ready. New captains include Rosalina, Pauline, Captain Toad, and even King K. Rool. Once you’ve picked your all-star team, head into the online and play baseball matches against players from around the world. We have a few more secrets regarding the online, but we can’t discuss that right now. In addition, save Baseball Island from Bowser’s evil clutch in the new story mode. His powerful baseball team and their mystical equipment threaten the island, and you must unite the captains. Build your team and defeat Bowser’s minions. Only you can save baseball for everyone. There’s lots to see and do in Mario Super Sluggers: Fever Pitch, and it’ll come out swinging this June.

    [Headline: A Wonderful Team Reunites]

Narrator: The Wonderful 101 is reuniting on the Nintendo Switch. It’s time to defend Earth once more from the GEATHJERK Federation with the Wonderful Ones. The game comes fully loaded with all the original content, along with some extra missions to take on in the multiplayer mode. The Wonderful 101 will also feature a New Game+ mode that will allow you to keep any Wonderful Ones you had in the previous run. In this mode, not only will the game go up an extra difficulty level, but extra enemies and optional missions will appear. It’ll truly be a battle worthy of mankind when the game morphs onto the Switch later this year. But that’s not all. We’re happy to announce Wonderful 101: The Greater Galactic Coalition, the sequel to the Wonderful 101, is in production for the Nintendo Switch. We can’t say anything more, as the details are top secret, but stay tuned, Wonderful Ones.

[Headline: The World Famous Fighter is Here!]

Narrator: Tekken 7 is coming to the Nintendo Switch! Face off in global battles as Heihachi Mishima, Yoshimitsu, Nina Williams, and more in this game. In this version of Tekken 7, all previous downloadable content is included, so no extra downloads are needed. Use abilities new to the Tekken series such as Rage Art and Power Crush to ensure your victory. And with online battles, the one on one action never ends! We also got a surprise guest coming in. That’s right! Little Mac from the Punch Out!! series is coming to battle the fighters of Tekken! With him, a new Boxing Ring stage in the center of the Bronx in New York will be added. This is truly an all-star cast of brilliant fighters, both old and new! All this and more from Tekken 7 when it pummels your expectations later this year.

(There was a semi-long line of other ports and smaller games that I just cut. These games are usually filled last anyway, so more will likely be added. Daemon X Machina is also here. I’ll just save you the trouble. It comes March 12. Time is approximately… 5 minutes)

[Headline: A New Way to Craft!]

Narrator: You already know a lot about the colorful Yoshi’s Crafted World game coming to the Nintendo Switch, but we’ve left out something a little special. Alongside the game, an optional Nintendo Labo Yoshi kit will release to make the game all the more personal. Construct an adorable Yoshi hat and shoes and build a set of colorful eggs for your Joy-cons. Set your Switch in front of your face by sliding it into the Yoshi nose that hangs in front of your head, and play! The feet connect wirelessly with the Joy-cons in your eggs, allowing for your movement to be taken easily, and motion controls in your eggs will allow you to throw like only a Yoshi can! It’s the craftiest way to play Yoshi’s Crafted World and look out for the Yoshi Kit and Yoshi’s Crafted World when they pop up on your Switch this spring.

[Headline: Trouble Comes in All Sizes]

Narrator: Following Mario+Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, the denizens of the Mushroom Kingdom were getting used to their… new friends, the Rabbids. Of course, peace in the Mushroom Kingdom never lasts. A strange group of creatures known as the Dark Teensies came from another world and quickly obtained the SupaMerge technology, creating a new army of Rabbids. It’s up to Mario and the rest of the gang to team up once more and defeat the Dark Teensies before the Mushroom Kingdom falls to their rule. They’re going to need some help from two “legendary” experts in fighting Dark Teensies, but we can’t say anymore at this time. Be on the lookout for more information about Mario+Rabbids 2: A Teensie Bit of Trouble later this year.

    [Headline: A Nintendo Cornucopia!]

Narrator: When it comes to bringing together the family for Nintendo fun, look no further than Nintendo Land: The Grand Re-Opening! Revamped games from the previous title return, while new titles come in to make the party fresh. Whether it’s leading an army of Pikmin, riding the waves of Wave Race, or stepping into the Punch-Out Ring, there’s plenty to do alone and together in this expansive park. More music and other collectibles will allow your theme park to overflow with Nintendo memorabilia and show off your true Nintendo love. Online and local wireless play will allow you to find friends to play with anytime, anywhere. Be on the lookout for Nintendo Land: The Grand Re-Opening when it lights up the Nintendo Switch Fall 2018.

    [Headline: A Dream Come True]

Narrator: The resident hero of the Glade of Dreams is coming onto the Nintendo Switch with a new collection. Rayman Trilogy: A Dream Collection! is coming to the Nintendo Switch. (Once again, boring nonsense here. Nintendo talking about the online. Takes about 5 minutes, and only thing worth mentioning is that the NES games for January are Mega Man 2, Super Mario Bros. 2 USA, and Earthbound Beginnings.)

    [Headline: A Legendary Adventure]

Narrator: Grezzo is back with The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Reawakening. Revisit a new Koholint Island with new dungeons, items, sidequests, and more on Nintendo Switch. This title is still undergoing a lot of major changes, so we can’t talk a lot about that now. We are glad to say it has a September 2019 release, so look out for this refreshing adventure then.

    [Headline: A Spooky Vacation]

Narrator: Here’s a brand new look at the new Luigi’s Mansion: Hotel of Horrors. Luigi, Mario, Princess Peach, Professor E. Gadd, and Toad find themselves offered a mysterious free vacation at a hotel, but all is not as it seems. Overnight, the others are captured by the ghosts of the hotel, led once more the frightening King Boo. It’s up to Luigi to save his friends with E. Gadd’s new Poltergust G-00. Throughout the hotel, Luigi will fight dangerous boss ghosts that will test his worth, but completing these will allow him to rescue one of the others. Upon rescue, they’ll team up with Luigi and bring new abilities to explore the hotel with. Don’t be scared though, Luigi is still the star! It’s just dangerous to go alone, after all! All this and more when Luigi’s Mansion: Hotel of Horrors sucks up your time on April 23rd.

    [Headline: The Quiet Life]

Narrator: Animal Crossing is all about the quiet life, and that’s what coming in Animal Crossing: Back to Basics. For this installment of the beloved series, plenty of changes were made to provide the best new experience possible! Players will take part in a Community Board, where each will be allowed to take on individual Public Works Projects in the name of city’s Mayor and new Vice Mayor, Tortimer and Isabelle. Main Street has been moved into the town for faster access, and similar stores have been condensed. The newly formed Summer Haven is a warm forest reserve headed by the outdoorsman, Harvey. Here, you’ll be able to interact with villagers that are taking a vacation both from your town and beyond. You’ll also be able to catch rare bugs here. You can also buy furniture and other goodies here with the MEOW coupons. This time, MEOW coupons are given by the villagers for doing favors and keeping the town clean. Keep them happy! In Nook’s Homes, you can now perform renovations to your home and change its appearance at the same time! Now, your encyclopedia of fish, bugs, and fossils will note which species have been donated to the museum for easy collecting! We’d love to show you more, but we gotta keep a few secrets, so stay tuned for more Animal Crossing information as it nears a Fall 2019 window.

Narrator: That’s all the headlines for Nintendo Switch.

Takahashi: How was that? Thanks for watching. With the Nintendo Switch and 3DS families, we hope to make 2019 a year full of mystical adventures, intense battles, endless exploration, and above all, fun. All of these titles and more will be hitting the Nintendo Switch and 3DS this year, so I hope you’re looking forward to them. Good-bye.

It all sounds very plausible, with some of games here being heavily rumoured before. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Reawakening is one of them.

That's just fantasy nonsense. Why would you cut out the 3DS part because you find it boring? He just couldn't be arsed making that up too.

I think some of the content is probably right but there is no way that script would leak from Nintendo. I expect a very small number of people have seen the whole thing, so it would be easy to find out who leaked it.

    That's just fantasy nonsense.

Like most of these leaks. I don't recall once an entire direct being leaked accurately a few announcements will get leaked or hinted at but not a whole show.

While I like the W101 port, It's highly unlikely that leak is anyway true. A full script has never leaked like that for a Direct, the basis of it is based on things already rumoured.

    Some early guesses/predictions:

    - Assassins Creed Collection of some sort (already leaked)
    - Metroid Prime Trilogy.
    - A 2D Zelda of some kind.
    - Possibly what Platinum are working on.
    - Mario Party DLC.
    - Retro's game (because we live in hope :P)

Plenty of unknowns too I'm sure.
