Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Drove through Sally gap up to Bray last Sunday myself. Uphill turbo flutter on lifting the throttle sounds eargasmic :pac:

    2016-Project-GTI-Tarox-Brakes-Update-36-1_zpspyrwxvum.jpg

I made some upgrades to the GTI recently, you can read about them here - http://www.speedhunters.com/2016/03/project-gti-spring-brake/

Also, just changed the two front tyres for two Kumho KU36 Ecsta XS', a street legal semi-slick which will be interesting given our climate. I was struggling to get any power down lately and these have certainly made a difference so far. Let's see how they last...

the first one is dangerous without the second*. the second isn't that useful without the first. Do both and you won't get sh*t said.

    * I of course mean serious work, adding ~25 horses with a remap is hardly going to make the car a danger without a full ceramic kit.

I'll take a twist on the conventional posting. picture of the JD. 1995, 9,100 hours. Washed it for the first time in a year yesterday, came up like a gem. Had to use a PTO powerwasher, as my own Nilfisk would have no impact on the stubborn dirt. An hour of washing seen it spruced up. Really need to get a new rear number plate for it, that one is one of those old pressed metal ones, with excessive spacing gaps between the numbers.

Anyone else agree the B5 has aged better than the B6 , the B6 looks ugly and dated now where the B5 still looks great imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭GvidoR

I wouldn't call B6 ugly at all, I think both B5 and B6 are nice. Not sure which one I would prefer, tbh, it's a tough call. Also the back end of the B5 reminds me of Polo Classic.

I think the denim blue ones look ugly for some reason not them all in fairness, I seen a few red ones about that still look great.

There's nothing wrong with a b5 but I think the b6 is an all together better car.

It really is, I'm still grinning after getting it back earlier. Still have a few bits to do, all in the name of making it somewhat presentable.

    Bought this yesterday.
Plan to swap the leather interior into my 08 Avensis and maybe the springs as the uk spec Avensis sits much nicer than the Irish spec.

Did anyone spot us yesterday? I only wanted to get a bag of chips, Towergrill in Kells and.... Well....

A bag of chips in Rio's was far more tempting :D

What trim level is your 08? There's probably a few other bits you could swap too.

Mine is a strata. I've been thinking about swapping the dual zone climate control and silver cd/cassette player but the plugs from my car don't match and I don't really want to go down the road of swapping loom and heater matrix. The same applies to the auto wipers/lights and auto dim rearview mirror.

The only other mod I'm contemplating is the cruise control but not sure how big of a job that would be to swap.

Good news is I've swapped the full interior including door cards. The strata doesn't come with plugs for the electricity adjustable seats so I cut out the plugs and soldered them to the cigarette lighter with the ground going to the bolt that holds the handbrake lever in place. Changed the 15amp fuse to a 20 as I use the cigarette lighter to charge my phone when I'm driving. All working perfectly so far!

Rear view mirror only needs power, which should be there. Think there's wiring for satnav antenna up there in later avensis regardless of whether it's fitted.

    Haha

No this one is a keeper. I really like it, plus I've put too much into it and I wouldn't get anything near what it stands me if I sold it :P

It ticked over 1k miles under my ownership today funnily enough. 59089 miles. I'm driving it two months, have it three. It was only doing about 1k per annum before I got it
