Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Rifter vs New Berlingo

I really like these 2 for a family car...different look but the same car.
Should both be similar in terms of reliability, or either brand has a better record?
I am not bothered by different looks, colors, etc so the purchase decision would be based primarily on reliability (and price, if the difference is material).

    Thoughts?

There would be no difference in reliability as they are the same thing. Keep in mind the dealer network though. Around me, the Peugeot dealers are well established and the Citroen ones are recent appointments. That may not be the case where you are of course. Resale value should be very similar. The Berlingo is a lot better known than the Partner but Peugeot as a brand are having a rebirth at the moment with their crossovers, so it’s between them.

Thanks Colm, good point about the dealer network.

Test drove the rifter the other day. Surprisingly really comfortable to drive. Jury’s out about the small steering wheel, id say it takes getting used to. Felt very spacious on the inside. Like the car overall. Pity Citroen couldn’t get a move on and release the new berlingo. It’s out in England several months ago.

the centre panel around / below the gear stick...does that impede on leg space?...i'd imagine the left leg knocking against it

    I didn’t notice that anyway.

The dash is a little different between them with the Peugeot having its i cockpit and the small steering wheel while the Citroen is more conventional. There is also the Opel Combo which is more similar to the Citroen inside with just a different steering wheel really but slightly different on the outside.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Waiting for some real fuel economy figures. I do about 7000km per year so thinking about petrol. That traction modes thing looks interesting, I wonder how it performs in real life.

Don’t know about the petrol ones, but the diesel seems to be returning near average 50mpg real driving.

Can you get the longer/bigger Rifter in Ireland? I read somewhere that it's probably the better buy.

Peugeot have some decent cars these days.

The xl would be too much for me. I like smaller as you can squeeze them anywhere, but I really like the functionality of the Rifter...not sure what to do, if I didn't have a family I would go for a Yaris hybrid or wait a few years until the infrastructure for electrics picks up.
