Hi any mechanic or VW specialist. I have a 2012 VW CC. I got an airbag light yesterday and message " airbag error ". So I scanned it myself and got an error code 01228. Checked this code says airbag key cut off switch, front passenger side.
Retracing my actions I did move the seat for someone getting in.

    Any help very much appreciated!

This may not help, but I have a megane with an airbag light, common problem with them, it's related to a cable under the passenger seat, been spraying the connector with contact cleaner for a long time, this was removing the light temporarily. What diagnostic device are you using?

Friend of mine had a airbag light on in his CC. A mechanic checked out the wiring under the seat and it was all good. Ended up being the switch in the glovebox where you turn the airbag off. Part cost around €40 from VW and was very easy to fit.

The key switch (passenger airbag deactivation switch) is a popular fault in those. A new switch is around €60 from a main dealer, the light should clear itself when a new switch is fitted. You'd diy it handy enough, there's probably a YouTube tutorial.

Hi all, thanks for your replies! I am looking at switches online, Are all of these switches identical, ie would a switch from a regular passat/golf/tiguan work?

the connections and shape of the switch are identical.

Probaby would work but these things can be temperamental too. Simplest thing to do would be to pop out your old switch and take the part number from that and search for the new one based on that number.
