Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

As I write this two elite Irish athletes are running 1200km from Causeway to Causeway without stopping or taking a break. This has surely never been done in the history of humanity before? Any idea why Noel Ward and Michael Mcenery aren’t getting more media coverage? This would be an incredible feat! Anyone have a link ?

    From where to where?

Is that five days with no sleep?

Is it tag team? I hate tag team stuff.

No. If you read the description here it says a non stop run. I’ll admit English is not my first language but I believe non stop means no breaks?

Do you really believe somebody can run 1200km without sleeping?

No sure but NoelApolloWard has challenged Big Joe Joyce to a fight and the other muchacho the Kingdom Crusader aka the Bare Chested Warrior is one of the greatest runners Eire has produced me not bet against them

I bet Enduro and Forrest Gump could.

I wish! I hate sleep deprivation. The longest I've run without sleep is a bit over 52 hours in the Northern Traverse (weather turned too stormy to sleep when I really really needed to sleep). I wouldn't choose to go that long without sleeping in normal circumstances.

There have been a few people who have tried to claim records for running the longest without sleeping. The most recent one was one of the most notorious cheaters of recent times (Infamously considered to have been hanging onto the back of his support van whilst "attempting" to break to record for running across the U.S.A.). But most rational people consider it unmeasurable and dismiss claims as both pointless and impossible to validate. Even the nutters amongst this lot claim no more than a few hundred miles over 3-5 days. So the chances of two back-of-the-pack Irish journey runners going 14 days without stopping are zero.

Also, I don't think that running the Ireland way (which is what most of their run is, if I read it correctly) is unprecedented either. Don Hannon was the first to do that a year or two ago. Although Don didn't tack on a backtrack home.

The 1200km must be an awful round-about route. When I map-measuered my Mizzen-Malin run it cam out at about 550km road route distance, and that is covering a longer point to point as the crow flies route.

Anyway, the article there makes it all about raising money for cancer (ICS), so best of luck to them on that front. Hopefully the charity gets a big contribution from the lads' efforts.

Sorry, not buying it. Somebody is using 'non-stop' inaccurately. It's utterly impossible to run for 14 days with no sleep and besides the numbers don't make sense.

745 mile in 14 days is 57 miles per day which is 2.37 miles per hour which is not running.

Causeway Co Kerry? If I lived there I'd run 1200km without stopping too.

Are these the same guys that ran around the Phoenix park a lot recently?

The ones that inspired that bizarre thread on here.

Thanks Enduro for clearing this up. I was confused that they used the term non stop. One thing that came to mind is if they weren’t going to stop, how would they facilitate ‘natural’ poo and pee breaks? I was concerned they might have to do these while moving and having heard some recent stories about messy incidents in races I was hoping they worked the need to relieve themselves into their plan.

I lived there. It's not too bad. Friendly people and close enough to the beach

    The very same.

I don't think they ever disclosed how much they raised during that series, hope they are transparent this time on what they raise / what goes to charity.

Thanks for giving me a mental image I could definitely do without!!!!

Some people seem to get a little annoyed by these type of 'events'.

We all follow this forum because we have a keen interest in running so when claims of 'non-stop run' for 1200km appear it's understandable that people get their heckles up.

I think enduro, who has the most justified reason to get annoyed by exaggerated claims given his track record in long distance/duration events, hit the nail on the head when he pointed out it's to raise funds for a cancer charity as it's primary goal. It's not like they are trying to set a FKT or something. Making headline grabbing claims will annoy those in the know but ultimately it's a tactic to gain publicity for the cause.
Fair play to them for raising funds for a fight against something that will unfortunately impact all of our lives or the lives of our families and friends.

That can't be done, are they gonna piss and sh1t themselves along the way?

All very well if the charity sees money at some stage.

Well I know of a few that have flown half way around the world to stay in 4 & 5 star hotels and run races for charity*

*after the cost of travel and accommodation have been deducted!

Why not make it something more difficult or worthy.....say 150 ks non stop...

Seems like a waste of time dragging it out....

Maybe they thought people will be more awed by the 1200 distance.....

I think there were a few questions raised in the last thread about whether the charity specified for their Phoenix Park runs recieved any money.

I do know when they were setting up their "Dublin Mountains Running Club", or whatever it is called, that they claimed that 10 Euro of the entry fee would be used to pay for IMRA membership for the club member. That was a false claim, as everyone has to sign up to IMRA for themselves on an individual basis, and no club or organisation can block register members. In fact for the first time that I can recall IMRA had to post up a warning about this behavior (see here).

TBH, I personally don't think that they are out to pocket money in any of this. There is a saying about not ascribing things to malice that could equally be explained by other factors.

Are these the same two lads that had a thread on here earlier in the year about some other 'feat' of endurance? I'll have to search the details but I remember it was contentious...

I hope it’s obvious that the OP is taking the piss here, posting links to old stuff that isn’t happening. Surprised at the level of engagement to be honest.

You don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to deduce that the event described is not happening at the moment (if ever), nor is anyone collecting ‘charity’ funds on justgiving.com.

    Take a break, ‘rashers’.

Bit of backseat modding going on there MurphD.

Anyway, this is actually happening shortly according to their Facebook page for the event, hence the engagement.
