Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

France camping or Canaries family holiday

Trying to plan a holiday & not sure which way to go.
We have a 6yr old & 2yr old & are trying to decide between a campsite in southern Brittany or the Canaries.

Will probably go for 10 days- 2 weeks. France is handy with being able to drive but it's a lot of travelling to & from. We've never taken either kids on a plane before so not sure how they'd cope (particularly the little one).

Looking for people's opinions on which they would go for & if there are any recommendations on which campsite/resort to look at would be appreciated.

With children that young I'd go with France or consider a shorter flight to somewhere like Salou or Majorca.

Others will have differing opinions so it's really down to personal preference.

Two hours at the airport, followed by 4 hours or more on a plane, plus a transfer at the other end could be a nightmare.

Boat journey may seem harder but there's space for the children to run around, bars, restaurants and a cabin to rest in. Drive on the other side could be upwards for four hours depending on where you go but you can take your time & stop along the way with the added advantage of being able to fill the car with the children's favourite toys or whatever.

We've done both over the years with the kids and imo, you can't beat a mobile in a campsite in France for a family holiday with small kids.

A campsite in France will have a lot more for the kids to do than an apartment block in the canaries (pool, playground, kids clubs, petanque etc.). When you're looking at 10 days you might find it cheaper to fly and rent a car than to take the ferry.

    Regarding flying v boat.

    Boat questions for you
Can you handle it if it is a rough crossing?
There isn't that much space to roam around.
Can you afford an extra day off for the boat travel and lose a day of hols on the way back if long journey?

    Plane questions
Can you bring everything you need in the luggage?
If flight delayed a few hours, how will the kids cope?
