"work from home" jobs - WTF are they? A scam?

    Long story short,
    A close person to me, who is unemployed, rang up a job they saw advertised as "work from home" today ... the so called 'employer' was very vague about details. Went on to say how the "job couldnt be described over the phone and its best to meet in person to describe it" - Upon hearing this I instantly said bullshit! Has to be a scam or something.

    So a few minutes ago I searched up "work from home" jobs on google. Lots of pages, including one seemingly professional site. But one problem. Doesnt say ANYTHING about what so called jobs these are.


    So After Hours I am turning to you for more info.
    So what are these? pyramid schemes? an utter con to get money out of you? or what not?

    In the vast, vast majority of cases, yes, they are a scam. Lot of work for little to no return and sometimes even an initial investment on the part of the "employee".

    Its bloody terrible.
    Yes, life is dog eat dog sadly. All is fair in love and war and all that. But I cant accept some prick who wants to go out and con random people.

    Forget about all those pyramid schemes. They never work. I have found a great way to make money though. Its called the trapezoid!

    I see them advertised 'earn $800 per hour' details always vague until you give them money or something..

    Why would they pay you so much money, obviously people would do the work for a lot less pay

    Some of them simply require you to download AdWare and all you have to do is browse the web as ads come at you from all angles. Click on a few and double your profit!!

    A fair proportion of them are scams. If I were considering one, I would at least want to visit a physical office for an interview/discussion etc. to satisfy myself that I was dealing with a real company and to know where they were if they were slow to pay. If it's a mobile number with a person who has no enthusiasm for giving you more concrete details at the end of it, forget it.

    Some of them are codes. Porn, prostitution, drug muling, forgery. The person advertises as something that the prospective worker or customer will be looking out for.
