Cryptocurrency learning resources for beginners

    What would be the best university masters or postgrad to inform yourself and possibly get a career ahead of the game before this becomes the norm?

    Or even better - online courses (udemy/YouTube etc) that would bring you up to speed with this cryptocurrency?

    I have basically no knowledge of it at all.

    All I know is that blockchain is a technology and bitcoin is the most common currency.

    I’m 27 and in construction, which is about to fall flat on its face in Ireland. An inevitable recession.

    Some of what Andreas said back then isn't applicable for Bitcoin any more, Ethereum has become the leader by a very wide margin in terms of building applications, testing and rolling out workable contracts.

    You should have previous coding experience prior to attempting Solidity (current dominant contract language) or Vyper (future dominant). Both borrow heavily from JavaScript and Python with Vyper at first being largely Pythonic but at the start of this year the bulk of efforts switched to Rust due to increased security features/syntax/functions. There's still a community Python implementation of Vyper being built with slower progress, but Rust's methodical, conservative style suits contracts much more and it's what the foundation is focussing it's own efforts on.

    If you have no coding experience whatsoever, start with HTML, CSS then JavaScript then dip into Automate the Boring Stuff with Python. It'll give you the foundation in babysteps. It won't be directly applicable to blockchain yet but you'll be learning and playing with the building blocks you'll use for everything else. Learning Rust will make more sense after Python, the internet is riddled with resources for switching from Python->Rust.

    You have a while yet, the user experience is very long winded and broken, you have to get on an exchange, find a wallet, figure out the difference between the wallets, how to back up a private key, how to restore it, whats a hardware wallet, whats a paper wallet, when you have some crypto in a wallet what can you do with it. Its completely broken.

    Product is the big challenge in crypto, building an experience that would be meaningful and help people understand why they should hold crypto but also use it, earn it and spend it is the big challenge.

    Thanks for the all the replies and to a few who DM’d me.

    Seems like you need to set aside a good bit of time like you would with anything new - learning a language etc.

    Maybe I’ll delve into it on the weekends. For now everything you’re talking about means nothing to me, all sounds confusing!!
