Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It wasn’t only you. All I could see was the 12 at the 6 o’clock position. Took me a sec to process that it was all correct.

The missus got me a lovely Bulang & Sons Siena Brown leather Nato for Chrimbo, can't get over how soft the leather is, it's beautiful!

Yes, there is. The white is limited ed. 911 Porsche version, the red on the dial  represents the time take for the Porsche to reach 100km/h in 1963..9.1 secons

Fair play Ian OB!. 🙂👌 Hands can be tricky so and so's.

On Christmas day(and my birthday) I always wear one of my dad's watches, sometimes go full two wristing same(missus)

I do love this big oul thing. Very steampunk. 🙂 At 43 mm, 50mm lug to lug, never mind the sticky out crown for use with gloves in open cockpits, it would have been a huge watch in the 1930's. Not in style at all, when what were In(c) were 25mm wide Tank watches. An actual "tool watch". I suppose like us all, can be a bit of a tool myself at times, so it kinda works. 😁

A few new words were invented yesterday alright @Wibbs.

Second hand is a little off balance, so a few more will be created today I'm sure.

Xmas present from the missus..love it so far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 733 ✭✭✭IrishPlayer

🙂 Great to see others getting stuck in! Like anything, just takes time and practice fitting hands, judging the clearances, alignment and if the amps are low always check the seconds hand is not touching the crystal....... ask me how I know!😂

We use a great tool nicknamed " The Trumpet" for fitting hands, makes it so much easier getting them on flat and pressing them down to the correct height.

The movement is placed into one of those little movement blocks that has a adjustable pin that supports the center jewel for fitting the seconds hand.

New Seiko Pepsi, this one doesn't seem to be Padi certified though!

Ignore my bezel please too dark to retake a photo now. Lume is greener in the flesh.

If the water ever gets that high up the wall you’ll need more than a padi watch

New longines automatic (navy dial, navy alligator strap). 25mm so a bit smaller than I normally wear but I have 14.5cm wrists so ok I think. Love how the metallic navy dial changes in the light. Treated myself as i got it at a good price I think and it's a good staple and versatile piece

Years ago I had sourced a 40’s French steel expanding Bonklip* style bracelet in 18mm for my Doxa “DH” on the left, but had long been keeping an eye out for one in 16mm for my Alpina Kreigsmarine on the right. 16mm actual Bonklip's are nearly as common as muck(and I have a couple), but I wanted the elastic expanding type, AFAIK only made by the French ZRC brand(founded in 1904). Far more comfortable and useful imho. But not so easy to find in the size required.

Anyway just before Chrimbo I snaffled a NOS one from eBay.fr, as you do.. It arrived yesterday. So here it and they are:

    And on the wrist:

This would currently be my smallest watch at 32mm, but funny enough the bracelet makes it look a good few mil larger.

Though in reviewing one corner of my hoard this did come to mind...

So well ahead of ye. 😂

*a seemingly British staple actually patented first by a Yank. Oops... i suppose the old saw of pioneers take the arrows, settlers take the land applies. As it so often does.

Need to get the original strap fixed, the joys of online shopping. Bought 22mm, not realising it's 24mm strap. Have crocodile strap @fulladapipes gave me when I bought Speedmaster Pro from him.

    Basically, work in progress

My Sinn U2-SDR on wrist today. Along with the tegimented bezel and new lume pip I bought months ago but have yet to actually sort out and fit. Either the new lume pip to the new bezel, or the bezel to the watch.

I need to have the hands reset on it too as the GMT and hour hands aren't lining up when all are at 12. Not a huge misalignment but one that irks. The watch is due a service and I may send it back to Sinn directly and get the bracelet and case bead blasted to freshen it up.

Back at the bench after spending Christmas back home. 2024 is going to be another busy one! In two weeks I'll be back at the BHI for another week course, servicing quartz watches, will do a post on it as well.

Wishing everyone all the best for 2024

Glad to be finally joining the club! Citizen Red Arrows line as a recent birthday gift. First watch I've had in years and also had my eye on for as long, absolutely thrilled with it! Thanks to my skinny wrist the local jeweller almost ran out of links to remove.

Managed to squeeze in time to do some of my own projects! 🙂

Getting ready for the BHI course, practicing with an ETA 955.412 that will be used on the course

Also got a Seiko 7006-8040 from April 1972 given to me by one of the watchmakers that I'm going to service and add to my collection ⌚

When I complete the WOSTEP course, I will definitely be looking after my fellow Boardsies with servicing! 😉⌚

Thanks all for the continued support 👍

    April 1972?

    Great provenance!

    Birth month, for me!

I finally got around to sorting out the lume pip on this bezel today. The hardest part of this was to remove the existing faded pip.

It was too resilient for a toothpick but, it yielded to a 1.2mm flathead screwdriver 😁

Once I had the old pip out, a combo of screwdriver and toothpick cleared out the recess.

Once the recess was empty, a quick further clean with an alcohol soaked cotton bud.

Then it was a case of checking which side of the pip was the luminous one, to be sure I got it right on install.

The most delicate part of the install was using a toothpick to drop a miniscule amount of super glue into the recess.

Enough for adhesion but as little as possible to ensure no excess or seepage.

The job is done, and I'm happy with it. I will probably swap it on to the U2 at some stage this week. That said, I might wait until after I have it serviced as I want to get the bracelet and case bead blasted to freshen it up when it's back with Sinn.

    A little after action pic😁

Lovely watch. I’m getting married in April and thinking of picking up a nice watch for the big day.

Do you mind me asking what is the name of that model? Found this online but I don’t think it’s same as it looks more rose gold compared to yours:

Lovely watch, I have the 2535.80 and I bloody love it. I think that era's wave dial is Omega's best iteration of it. Subtle and yet so very different everytime the light hits it.

Have one of these too, great watch. Was my one and done nice watch 15 years ago. Wore it everyday for a decade before the bug got me and I started picking up a few more watches. Doesn’t get worn much these days but I’ll never let it go, it marked a stage in life.
