Hi, my sister has a roundy birthday coming up, the big 50. She has been a rock to so many people over the years that we're all chipping in to get her some high end luxury stuff. What is the best moisturiser out there for youthful skin. La Mer, Charlotte Tilsbury etc? Budget for this would be one to two hundred. She'd have fair skin.

Why don't ye get her a voucher for BT or other department store with a good selection of luxury brands and let her consult with them re her particular skin needs?
Clarins seems to be very popular for mature skin - the Double Serum and Super Restorative Day Cream are favourites with my aunties on both sides of the family. I know it's a relatively expensive brand but may not have the luxury factor you're looking for!

I wonder what the situation with product samples is at the moment, Covid-wise? Could ye gather a collection of samples together so she could try before buying?

Thanks Dee. Good suggestions but she’d use the voucher for someone else. Just want personal experiences if possible on the expensive ones so I can pick one up. Veering towards la mer currently.

La Mer would definitly have that luxury factor, as I'm sure its not something she'd buy for herself.

Could you get a voucher for a specialised skin consultation with a skin clinic - ie a voucher thats not easily diverted to someone/something else?

Personally my recommendation for skincare is always Image, which is pricey but maybe not so luxurious as the branding/packaging is more focused on it being a sudo clinical product set. Lots of dermatologists recommend it.

Their retinol stuff is expensive but I love it.

La Mer will look, feel, smell luxurious, but ranges like Image are more focused on active ingredients.

Elemis is also a good brand to look into, very luxurious and usually has some sets at different price points. The Marine Creams are very popular and feel amazing on the skin!

Just to say, Image always do gift sets coming up to Christmas with some of their most popular products and they're usually good value. I'd expect to see them coming on line in the next few weeks if that suits your timelines.

I find Millies.ie very good for skincare brands - they have both Image and Elemis for reference, but lots more. Theyre an Irish website too.

You could always say "let's go shopping!", bring her to BT, get a consultation done, and then buy her what they recommend!

My OH is a few years shy of your sister but she uses Zein Obagi as it was recommended to her by a skincare clinic.

Your sister sounds like a lovely kind person. I hope she has a very good and happy birthday.

Elizabeth Arden has some lovely moisturizes also. Maybe if you knew her skin type , you could talk to a few of the counters in BTs. But I do think more of the skincare with active ingredients are sold in salons following a skin care analysis.

A lot of good suggestions already.

I obviously don't know your sister, and you do, but I am not sure how I would feel about getting skin cream as a birthday present for a big birthday. I tend to overthink things but I probably would be wondering if it was a hint about my skin / ageing.

Anyway, you seem to have your heart set on it, and as I said you know her and I don't.
Hope she has a great birthday, she sounds like a great sister.

If you want luxury or in other words a pro moisturizer, then you can see La Mer. It is rich in minerals, antioxidants and vitamins to combat against dull and dry skin. The Ordinary is also very favourite, but it is very budget-friendly.
