Wow, they're sure qorking with some speed

Yeah you have to remember, before the European tour in 06, mark and tom both said they had enough material that they couldve put out two albums.
When the tour was over they were going to start recording the songs they hadnt put on the self titled album, but obviously we all know what happened then.

And then when they started playing together im sure riffs and ideas were thrown around, like mark said in his blog, Up all night was pretty much ready to be released.

So if they are using songs from pre-hiatus then im all for it.
That Self Titled album had some quality about it.

Wednesday brought utter catastrophe to the B room
of our studio. Complete meltdown of the hard drive/recording hardware
setup. Many, many crashes and frustration. Chris, our trusted friend
and engineer, fought the good fight, but the studio has been busy
nonstop since we built the place, and years later is in desperate need
of some upgrades. It happens. But consequently we were only able to
record some background vocals before abandoning the studio. But keep
in mind, those are probably the best background vocals EVER RECORDED!!
Well, maybe not, but that’s the thought that keeps me from being
annoyed at the studio situation. In any case, I used the found time to
finish writing the lyrics to the track I was trying to sing.
Then today began anew, with a fresh lease on reality. The sun rose
and with it, so did our good fortune, or something poetic and
meaningless like that. We brought the BLUE bottle microphone, set up
shop at my home studio, and I sang the song I wanted to sing yesterday.
Success! Still deciding if the bridge section of the song would
benefit more from vocals, some type of guitar solo thing, or a
different element altogether. But good work done!
The song we’re working on is currently called “Not For Real.” I’m
stoked on the way it’s coming together. It’s one of the more
straight-forward songs so far, with kind of an up-tempo, indie-rock,
Americana vibe to it. That’s where it stands today, at least. It may
change several times more before we deem it “finished.”
And now, I will watch hockey. And college football. SPORTS!!

It would be so good that when they are talking about the break up, mention dublin in 2004 and then a video of some song from august is put in :D

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,755 ✭✭✭A V A

ye i say that will happen , and they will mention coming back to a strong sold out crowd or something :P i barley saw haven going around with his camera on stage tho ??

not a lot of them look like they are 'Invading the stage' as such.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,755 ✭✭✭A V A

what do you mean?? none of those shots are of dublin , nd haven goes behind the drums etc and has cameras set up on tripods on each side of the satge , but didnt see any in dublin

    Sorry, i'll reiterate;

Going by above shots,(albeit, not in Dublin, but as reference only) they don't usually go to far onto the stage for shots etc.
But i seen haven on the left of the stage at one point, i remember my girlfriend pointing him out so i lifted up my sign.
Also he was out near the start and got a shot of the hndsm*rndsm Swedish(?!) flag hanging over the balcony.

And then the camera on the tripod set up behind the sound desk obviously for those full stage bits.

    Nope.

Don't want to hear a single note until the band decides I'm ready to hear it to be honest

At the studio. The song I started writing yesterday is evolving into a fast, punk-rock jam in the vein of old blink-182. Super excited about this one!! Tracking guitars for it now. This guitar here is the best ever for tight, punchy, distorted tracks. Fender Tele Jr. Suggested and used by our longtime friend and producer Jerry Finn.

    Same here. :pac:

I know some of you are saying that you wouldnt want to hear anything,
But tom plays about 7 seconds of something in this video at 4.50.

    It sounds quite
    electronically and
nearer the last second of the snip he plays you can hear a more familiar blink bass sound creeping in.

Guys give it a listen, it would kill any anticipation you have for the album in the slightest.

Infact its made me think more about what its going to sound like in the overall sense.

Anyway heres the link. If you dare :P

yeah i thought that too, its not enough to gauge any kind of definite opinion on it i think.
As tom said, its out of context to the whole thing so i trust him on that.

That clip really reminds me of the song "Obvious" from the last Blink record. Anyone agree?

Oh, and by the way, I hate you all for forcing me to watch that ;)

Wonder is he freaked out about his receding hairline or something.
His hair just seems to be disappearing or something. Like if you look at the everythings magic vid he doesn't look too bad. Quite good actually. ;)

He probably believes that musical ideas are best channelled through a beanie hat, and that it will help them make a good album..

I’ve been seriously remiss these past couple of
weeks in keeping up with the studio updates. Apologies for that. The
good news is that it’s because we’ve been busy with new songs and
ideas, and some tracks are very near complete. In rough terms, I’d say
we’re working with the better part of ten or so songs at this point.
There’s still a long to way to go before the album is done, but
already it seems like the songs are both taking a step even further
than we took on the last album, while also going back to the sound of
some of the earlier albums. And the ideas keep coming. Yesterday I
worked on the basics of an uptempo, catchy progression; kind of in the
vein of Wendy Clear or Going Away to College. We’ll see how it comes
together… The Americana, country-type song that I’ve written about
before is now in its third incarnation, and I think it gets better with
every change. Can’t wait till Travis plays drums on it and it goes to
a whole different level. One track that is pretty much done is an idea
that Tom started, and we added a bunch of stuff, changed some things,
and then Travis put down a beat that blew the doors off the whole
thing. SO GOOD!! I guess it’s really pointless to WRITE about
creating music, you’ll hear it for yourselves soon enough and make your
own judgements. Suffice it to say that we’re well on our way and all
    very excited.
Today we did a photo shoot at the studio with our friend Lisa
Johnson for an upcoming piece in Kerrang magazine, I tracked some bass,
and we worked on the arrangement of one of the songs.
And finally, the best news in this post. We have a date for the
completion of the album. We want to deliver the record in April or
May, for release very soon afterward. That’s our goal. That’s what
we’re all working toward. That being said, the only thing more
important to us than getting the record out in that time is getting a
GREAT record out. If it isn’t absolutely ready at that point, we’ll
keep working until it is. But that’s the plan. Everything is starting
to coalesce, and it’s very exciting to begin the next chapter of
    blink-182.

Anyone have any idea if AvA are gonna come to Dublin/Belfast in their tour in February? They're only bloody announcing a few dates at a time every couple of days.

Planning on heading to Glasgow if they dont. :(

They announced a show in Luxembourg the other day.
If they are playing there they sure as hell might as well play over here

I'd put a bet on it they did.

Let's say it like this, blink played to an easily 12,000 in august and even if only 1/3 of them (4,000) would be willing to see Ava, that's enough to pack out the Olympia/academy/tripod?

Let's just hope they use the same logic.:)

Not to mention the AvA fans that won't just because because it's a Blink (well, Tom) side project.

They could easily sell out one of the smaller venues.

    European tour has been announced.
So far only england shows, but mark has said it is an arena tour only.

And obviously that they only done festivals in august. (apart from us and scotland of course)

Blink will be back here in some capacity this summer, surely? I know most bands try to please the home crowd but they definitely said that they would come back as soon as possible. :o

Did they not say something like "See ya next year, mother****ers!" at the end of the August gig?

    Something like that, anyways.. :p

Don't remember that at all, although that could be due to the night of heavy drinking that followed that epic gig.

To help you both, i was sober at the concert and he said something more along the lines of "Cya again Dublin and alot sooner than it took to come back for this".... although i could also be wrong cause i was in some other world at that concert.

This might just help us all out a little:

Why i only thought of it now i have no idea. :P

Also, was it asked/answered to why tom has the red mat down on the ground where he stands?

I never seen an answer to it. Every single gig he has one put down on his side of the stage

I never seen an answer to it. Every single gig he has one put down on his side of the stage

I think i might have figured out a possible theory.

Remember tom was doing damage to his back and had to rise his guitar up and couldnt have it as low as he used to?

My aunt has this mad foamy matt in front of her cooker. She stands on it when she is cooking or at the sink washing the dishes.
She told me tonight its because of her back and the way she puts more of her weight on a certain leg. So when she is standing for a while its not the same as standing on the solid ground.

Maybe theres a chance that the big mat is the same idea?
An orthopedic carpet so he doesnt aggravate whatever slipped discs and that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,743 ✭✭✭Revolution9

    Good theory.
He doesn't have that carpet on stage when he's playing with AvA (who incidentally, are going on a European tour for the first time early next year) and he mostly acts the front man minus his guitar for them, so that would add weight to your theory that he needs it to improve his posture while playing guitar and not cause further damage to his back.
