What do the founders of Boards.ie think of Boards.ie Today?

I know we had a thread here on AH going back a few years from one of the founders of boards.ie. Wouldn't mind him and other original founders coming on again and expressing what boards.ie means to them today.

For me, it's still a grand site overall in terms of "instant news commentary" and from the perspective of getting stuff out there such as bargain alerts, initial reaction to news etc from an Irish perspective- but debating issues of the day, I think it fails miserably but maybe the whole discussion forum approach is just too "slow" and "pedantic' in today's fast paced social media world?

Personally i think there's still a place for boards.ie today but it's not looking healthy for the future with the likes of twitter and whatever else will come our way - IMHO :)

Still, would like to think what the founders of boards.ie think too, as well as yourselves.

I think it's a great place for people to get outraged about stuff they read or see on the internet.

I would stay away from something which is a miserable failure.

I'm not really a miserable failure- honest :(

I came here intially for the special interest boards and they were a great source of information at one stage. In the last while Reddit has greatly surpassed it in that regard mainly due to the bigger user base.

After Hours is still good for a bit of craic but it's taken a bit of a dark turn in the last couple of years.

I think Boards is still one of the better corners of the internet, even if the nutter quota seems to go up and up week by week. I'm often amazed at how some people have found their way to this place, where you would think basic writing and comprehension skills would prove handy - and yet a lot of people clearly can't think beyond their latest hot-take.

    I doubt they even care.

They think Louise O'Reilly or whatever her name is is going to be the first Cork woman on Mars. Well, I think she's the very definition of "I had to Google her".

The proliferation of cheap American buzzwords is a stain on this site.

Its become way more conservative/bordering on right wing over the last few years.

I can't be be bothered to post in many topical threads anymore as I know I'll end up arguing with anywhere up to 10 numpties who refuse to read or accept any kind of scientific research or anything like that.

Its also become a lot harder, a lot more mean spirited than what it was. The negativity towards anyone that dares to use our social welfare system astounds me. There's more support for, "the poor landlord", than there is for the tenant paying waaaay more than they ever paid before.

In a nutshell, its going through its awkward teenage years, and I can't wait for it to just grow up already.

That thread is the most pathetic thing on the forum and the fact that it's still going is very sad.

I think they'd be disappointed to see the toxicity in so many threads and the commercialisation boards has, in recent years, had foisted on it. I reckon they'd think the responsive site was a sack of sh*t.

But I'm sure they're pragmatic enough to know the toxicity is Internet/lrl wide and the harsh reality that money needs to be made, to keep the site even barely above water, and that the responsive site is indeed an abomination.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

    Yep. Take 'proliferation' for example.

Here's something from 1999 to remind us of how good it was at the start.

They're probably to busy using Twitter and Reddit to notice.

They have added a special sub forum to discuss travellers!

Quite. You've people more or less defending pedo behaviour on a current active thread.

I still like the site though. Think there's good craic to be had as you said. We've some interesting and knowledgeable posters and a nice eclectic mix of contributors.

Conversations been done before. There's always a place for a forum on the internet, FB and twit ter will never fill that sort of hole.
