Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There are two morning show host I can't listen to. Marty Wheelan and Ray D'Arcy. It's nothing personal, I just don't enjoy listening to them.

Moncreiff I like a lot but I wouldn't be prepared to listen to everthing he does.

Lately I have had a good alternative. Since he started, Marty Morrisey is a far better Radio host than Mooney ever was. All IMHO of course.

So if past behavior is indicative of future action I suspect I am going to miss Mr Morrisey come friday.
At least he shuts to f**k up and lets his guests answer his questions. Not like the other fellow who would talk all over them and disagree with them at any opportunity.

I will listen in on his first morning, more so for radio Bingo, to see how many hours...sorry minutes before the great man mentions running, Kate, Tom, Jenny, sugar, height and how many kids and what ages are they?

Well you'll be waiting because his new show isn't on in the morning it's on at 15:00.

I saw him on with Neven Maguire the other night. looked like he could do with a good feed. He's wasted away to nothing.

Will 'Fix it Friday' still be part of his schedule?

I'll explode with excitement when I have 'Fix it Friday' & 'Funny Fridays' when the are on the same day.

    *insert sarcasm here*

can;t see the show going well, is probably a stopgap till he gets moved to the morning slot on 2fm.......

The appointment of his wife just shows how out of touch and downright shameful that RTE are. Rather than try somebody new, or even stick with Marty Morrissey, they bring in Ray and then are happy to shell out for his wife and producer also. The whole things stinks, and I certainly won't be sorry if this show suffers from a ratings problem.

What RTE need to do is get away from these personality-driven and personality-titled shows, perhaps moving towards a series of specialist programmes one day a week in that slot: history show on Monday, music show on Tuesday etc.

Will this mean that there will be no more Mammies dancing around their Kitchens with their babies as they will be too busy on the school run.. :D

Also why does Ray need two producers? Its hardly taxing reading out text from said Mammies dancing around their kitchens.

He used to have 3, now we know why Mairead quit the show without a word

I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when they told her they were all leaving and she wasnt coming, I bet she went ballistic!

I'd say she left before he got the job, otherwise the news would've gotten out that he was leaving and he would've been sent on gardening leave a lot earlier.

According to that interview in the RTE Guide he told his bosses on the Friday and was told not to come in on the Monday.

I'd love to know what was going on behind the scenes. First Jenny leaves to spend time with the kids then Ray himself took a break back in August during which it was announced that Mairead was moving to the breakfast show. He then never mentions her leaving when he returns.

Ray joins RTE and Jenny follows. I presume spending more time with the kids is no longer a priority for her.

    All very odd.

I've also noticed that Mairead is no longer following Jenny on Twitter and vice versa.

If you remember, that even when the RoseOfTralee was on, Ray would take almost afaik 6wks off inc for ROT & now he's with RTE.

And when the new head of RTE/2FM Dan (i don't know his surname) was asked was he going to get any hi profile people to shake up the station, Ray was one name mentioned, he said 'no way, will i be hiring anyone (back) from Todayfm, anyway he takes too many holidays' :p

Ian came out to Mairead's defence a while ago on twitter to say she made her decision months ago it was her choice to join him!

Ian usually lets things slip, but is keeping mum on this, as it was him that let slip on Ray & Jenny, by saying 'i thought everyone knew' ;):p

That's a shame, the two of them seemed to be good friends. I'm no fan of hers but I kind of feel sorry for Mairead, despite what Ian said it sounds like she wasn't invited to the party. Still think it was bad form of Ray not even mentioning or thanking Mairead. Jenny's been getting very annoying lately retweeting all the positive tweets she's been getting about the show. That's her unfollowed!

Best of luck to them but I don't see that many listeners following him over.

I'd imagine a sizable chunk of D'Arcy's listeners were already listening to Radio 1 at that time anyway. Those that weren't are likely the die hard Today FM fans who just let it on all day or are just looking for music at that time of day.

Really, D'Arcy's figures in the coming JNLR books are merely a sideshow IMO. What's really going to be interesting is whether Anton Savage can consolidate.

Just heard the ad on Radio 1 for the first time, it mentions both running and kids, no eggs though

I wonder where they got the fake callers for the promo... I think this was a stupid thing to do.... Cos everybody knows that the callers are fake since he is not on air yet...

I think most if not all the "interesting" e-mails on these radio chat shows are fake. Well technically they may be e-mails from somebody .. (but its somebody from the research team) ..and they will have developed a whole show to then go along with the points brought up in the e-mail.

Was listening to Anton Savage this morning .. who had a convienent e-mail to begin the show with and he hung the whole show around topics from that e-mail. (with convenient research already being ready to hand etc. etc.)

I wonder are the callers, fake as well .. eg. actors reading off a script .. prepared by the show's producers.

Would love a documentary/expose on exactly how widespread this is ? Surely some "insider" could fill us in ?

I suspect maybe Joe Duffy's callers are real .. hence the show is sometimes all over the place .. the way you would expect it to be .. if its being done on the fly. The great thing about his show is there is obviously very little time to vet the callers .. hence you have some complete lunatics .. who get airtime. Magic radio !!

Today FM is fairly brutal nowadays from 12.00 until 16.30. How he gets on against Moncrieff will be interesting.

It is a shame, as when Mairead's marriage broke-down, she joined Ray & Jenny on the 2nd wk of their holiday, to get away from it all, as there was an article in the paper on her 1st tv show.

& their kids i assume were good friends as well in all of this too & now bear the brunt of it now? Very sad indeed.
