Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi Guys,

Myself and the better half are getting married in February so I am looking at getting something that will last and that I can say I got this for my wedding as such. I am not a watch person and have no real idea what to look for. I do like metal straps more the leather as it will be something I can wear day to do.

just to add I was looking at the seiko 5 automatic

    Thanks

Can't go wrong with a Seiko 5 for a long-lasting watch. Pretty much bulletproof and you have your choice of styles :)

Do you have any preferences? Dress, casual, sports?

For €200 and 'not a watch person' I would probably try to get a Citizen eco-drive with sapphire crystal. Would need to know a little bit more about your preferences before suggesting something specific.

This is my everyday watch that I have a few years , I wouldn't mind something a bit more dressy that I could possibly where with a shirt etc.

There's a lot of options really, and it depends how dressy you want your watch to be. You can wear non-dress watches with your suit and still look really sharp.

A classic style dress watch would be something like this Citizen, which is quite good value given it's an Eco-Drive:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Citizen-Eco-Drive-Gents-Strap-Watch/dp/B002XUKUAU/ref=sr_1_6?s=watch&ie=UTF8&qid=1544097462&sr=1-6&keywords=citizen+ecodrive+watches+men

I'm a big fan of diver watches and there's a lot of Seiko automatic divers which fit the budget and look well, this one has been on my wish list a long while:

Now these might be a step too far for you, it's a Timex Marlin they are hand wound watches so require you to manually wind the crown daily. But they look great. They are a small watch which is in style at the minute:

    https://www.timex.co.uk/browse/collections/marlin/marlin-hand-wound/

I do really want a Marlin... must check ebay for old ones...

Watchshop have a Seiko Premier for €230 shipped (using code GIFT20)

    https://www.watchshop.com/mens-seiko-premier-watch-skp391p1-p100003978.html

It's 'only' a regular quartz but in its favour it has quite a nice dial, sapphire crystal and the (machined) clasp looks well done. From the pic it looks to have solid end-links.

You can certainly get a Seiko automatic for the money but most Seiko 5s in this price range will cheap out on the bracelet and crystal. To commemorate a wedding I would want something that held up a little better over time.

Have a look at Orient Bambino. Comes with lots of different face colours and strap types. But it's a nice allround style.

I've seen this close to 200 a few places online and it's an incredible watch.

I've had many compliments on it, wearing it hard for 4 years and not a hint of a scratch on the sapphire glass, plus you will never have to adjust the date or time or replace the battery. Always there, always accurate, always looking good. Great value

CreationWatches and Citywatches.ie both have 3 versions of the SNZH for €108 (with discount code) inckuding dhl delivery.
Even after paying 23% vat and customs clearance fee its still only €140.

I have never seen all the avsilable colours in any jeweller.
This watch is known as the Fifty Five or the Fifty Five Fathoms. Google Seiko FFF to see how it can be modded easily.
